I would be targeting a guy like Brock Nelson personally as he isn't terrible defensively and can put the puck in the net. Ideally we could find a defensively responsible center who can hit like Pacioretty but good luck finding that.

Scott Laughton. It appears to be the most logical. Only $3M and has a year left.

IF Tre does plan on making a big move, he should do it as early as possible. Getting a 2C/3C and spreading out the scoring would be beneficial. In the past players like Denault, Barkov, Bergeron etc have all been able to shut down Matthews and his line, leaving Tavares, Nylander to pick up the slack and hoping players like Kerfoot, Kampf, Holmgren etc can chip in.

I think the key should be to spread the lines. That way it won’t matter

Some Marlies are likely better options and if you can move these maybe something comes back but to say top 10 team is crazy. This is a fringe team.with hot Tending. Hardly, maybe some. The depth choices are all trash. Rather have Grebenkin Minten or some of the other Marlies. These guys do nothing at all

OK well if you are assuming no moves then you can't do that, that's not going to work.

You can't put Mitch with David Kampf and expect that to be successful because David Kampf is an offensive black hole he has no finish.

In order to do what you need a better 3rd line center.

You need a Ryan Strome, Yanni Groude, ROR, you need somebody that isn't completely worthless offensively, otherwise your idea fails.

I'm not going to challenge that statement, but this is hardly a time to be prudent. Shanny might be on his last legs. Why bring in Tanev and OEL only to be a strong contender in 2-3 years? Just because they're not currently playing well, doesn't mean you deviate from the plan. I'm not sure Toronto will get an opportunity like this again. 4 players who have great skill, but admittedly haven't achieved much in the playoffs. Shanny / Treliving are doing the keep WN/MM/AM/JT and hope one day they break through in the playoffs.

Yeah, that's completely fair. Contention window is now, the core guys aren't getting any younger. Tough position to be in, but there definitely has to be some kind of push to make this year a contending year.

They have done that while not having a full lineup for a single game, and no last night does not count that lasted less then 1 period.

I'm not sure that's the case, I don't know how it can be.

Now It's not perfect there are players on this team that have to go, Holmberg and Timmins chief among them, they need to be fired directly into the sun.

But I don't know how you endure as many injuries as the Leafs have, still find yourself top 10 in the league in February and still say your depth sucks.

That's not how that works, in order to do that you NEED to have good depth.

It can be better and needs to be better but it does not suck given the injuries and where they are in the standings it can't that's impossible
