Some would argue he still has blinders on
How sad that we had to wait 8 years for the eastern conference to turn crappy so we could compete.
How can anyone look at the Eastern conference and not want the Leafs to sell everything that isn't nailed down to improve their team? This is nuts. When are they ever going to get a more favourable situation than this season?
Blind love and short memories keep the belief alive for some. I’m in the minority because I’ve seen too much that I can’t play that game but apparently it works for most leaf fans so good for them I guess.Reminds me of what was written when the Leafs ended 1st in the North division. That was what a favourable situation looks like more than what they have right now.
This is what was said heading into the playoffs.
"The Maple Leafs are the biggest favorite on the odds to win the Stanley Cup coming out of the North Division going off at +600 "
We all know what happened after.
could like the raps when they got kawhi need to take this opportunityHow can anyone look at the Eastern conference and not want the Leafs to sell everything that isn't nailed down to improve their team? This is nuts. When are they ever going to get a more favourable situation than this season?
Seeing the CGY/PHI trade makes me wonder if TOR could have a similar approach in retooling their bottom-six. As much as no great options for a third line have presented themselves this year, they are crowded with a lot of potential bottom-six forwards when healthy: Domi, Kämpf, Järnkrok, Reaves, Dewar, Robertson, Pacioretty, Holmberg, and Lorentz, not to mention the rumours that TOR is right with EDM in the race to sign Brandon Saad. That signing would put the Leafs at ten forwards who could potentially play on their third or fourth line.
All that to say, something like Max Domi and Nick Robertson in a package doesn't feel too far removed from Andrei Kuzmenko and Jakob Pelletier, and so it makes you wonder if another team would have a pair of third-line type forwards looking for a change of scenery that some kind of swap could be pulled off. Like CGY, maybe you throw in a 2nd and a 7th or something to make sure that it is an upgrade, but you don't have to pay any premium assets for an aging rental.
Frost is a good player and Farabee is an OK player but are considerably better than the pile of recycle junk you listed.
Yes this is the type of trade Toronto needs, it's not the type of trade that Philly would do though.
Were they in on Philly? Flames bought low IMO. I hope that they are cooking something better with another club because the acquisition cost of those two Flyers is less than I would have expected.. Frost has no term after this year though so it may have been as simple as that. Adding players with term going into a cap balloon is what this team needs to do and what we heard they were working on. Spend more and aim a bit higher.Seeing the CGY/PHI trade makes me wonder if TOR could have a similar approach in retooling their bottom-six. Didn't Philadelphia just do that type of trade though? That's kind of the point. Andrei Kuzmenko is an overpaid, underachieving forward with just 4 goals in 37 games this year while making $5.5M. Jakob Pelletier is a 23 year old prospect with just 23 points in 61 career NHL games who stands at just 5'9" and 170 lbs. Sounds a heck of a lot like Max Domi and Nick Robertson to me. I'm not saying that Toronto's going to be able to pull off a good trade like that. All I'm saying is Toronto should be open to shopping current roster players, not just futures, in the event that a good opportunity like this one cropped up.Frost is a good player and Farabee is an OK player but are considerably better than the pile of recycle junk you listed.

Because I largely agree with this post. Toronto is not a legitimate contender this year, and pissing away more of them future just to get themselves within range of contending doesn't make a lot of sense. So, if they do anything at all, I'd prefer them to try to make some savvy player for player swaps. Not aggressive at all, if you have to trade a 1st or a Blue Chip prospect to think you have a chance to win the cup, that means you are not close enough to the cup to trade a 1st or a Blue Chip. GM's always over estimate the strength of their team.
This team is nothing but a bunch of under achievers, they have not earned our GM sacrificing the future for the way they played this year. They dont look in synch, the coach has effectively neutered his offence, with a system that has only been effective in preventing us from scoring.
I want Coach Q and I want this team to get over themselves, they are elite at nothing.
I have no idea if they were in on PHI, but I agree, CGY bought low. If TOR could pull off something similar, that would be fantastic. Were they in on Philly? Flames bought low IMO. They have to go bigger because these high paid scorers can't score they need a BIG addition to make some noiseThere needs to be another C in the mix come playoff time.
With the new info about the cap, grab someone with a couple years of term that can have a real impact. Not looking for a Boyle or Plekanec type of add. Got to go bigger if you are serious.
How 'BIG' we talking here? They have to go bigger because these high paid scorers can't score they need a BIG addition to make some noise
