How about one game with ONLY real crowd noise?

I have recently seen some old hockey videos and recent rugby videos. The natural crowd noise was electrifying. Especially in comparison to the phony crowd noise generated by piped-in music so prevalent in North America now-a-days.

Should NHL teams introduce organic crowd noise nights next year?

My favourite Jets games were the ones with chants not related to the arena's induced crowd responses.

Yep, nothing gets players motivated more than hearing...

I remember a few years back there was either a strike or lockdown, and Bomber games had no announcers, just in-house mics. It was beautiful.

Imagine being able to talk to your friends during stoppages.

I've been to a few Premier League games. Great atmosphere. No "artificial" sound. Just regular ambient crowd noise punctuated by what seemed like spontaneous chants. And you can chat with your neighbors! Good times.

I've thought often about how cool it would be if the broadcast was only the ice level mics, where you hear the crowd and also the players chirping each other or talking to each other. Might have to have the broadcast rated PG13 or something to eliminate the snowflake complaints, but it would be great to hear the players on the ice more. Buff would've been worth it by himself.

Any time they've done this with football games, I've found the audio completely unintelligible. Still, it might be entertaining to listen to Wheezer huffing and puffing or ScheifMe whining at the ref.

Thus happened one year with CBC I the early 2000s some time, during the playoffs; definitely saw a few Habs games with no on air announcing. The on air talent went on strike as i recall. The goal announcements and the like came from the arena announcer. The penalties was the refs mic on the arena system. It was quite excellent.

I think hockey was better when there was an organ player. Chicago in old Chicago stadium. I remember watching video of a game in the Forum hearing the Rocky song before a scrap on the ice. Caught the mood.

But let's face it, the Jets arena was a mausoleum last year. Seniors are not noisy people, and there's a lot of them in the stands. Only the Friday night games seem to have life. It would be nice to get back to the 2011-2019 Jets that had a lot of energy.

The old Jets when anyone could afford the tickets, and beer was cheap made for some noise. Which was true of any arena.

Many responders here are talking about the broadcast. I was talking about the in-rink experience. Everything now seems contrived and phony. No natural ebb and flow, as there is in British and other foreign sports. It's not just here, it's league wide.

Maybe we'd see more of those widely appreciated Winnipeg fan chants (e.g. "sil-ver med-al") again.

Does anybody remember the fan revolt across Canada to the "Eh, Oh, Canada Go" chant?
