Any trade for Horvat, a 27 year old centre whos 2nd in the league in goals, plays the right way, seems to be a coaches dream and a natural born leader (I may be wrong on my assessment of Horvat here), would have to hurt to acquire.

Dube and Kylington does not hurt. Nor does Horvat fit the flames needs (top 6 RHS-RW shoot first winger).

Would be a 2023 first and Zary type package to get it done.

- Flames do love the first round of the 2013 draft (Horvat would be the 7th of 30 players from that round to play for CGY)

Garbage proposal

Horvat is a top 6 C. top 3 faceoff guy in the league, came off a 30 goal season last year, still youngish and on pace for a PPG season with like 40+ goals.
Pending UFA noted.

and you offer a No4. leftshot dman and a 3C.
wow.

Would make the transition to being a Flames fans much easier… throw Schenn in as well.

Van - sends Horvat @ 20% retained
Calgary - sends Dube and Kylington back

Money equals out
Sure and with less than $2,000,000 to spend next summer, tell me how Calgary is going to pay Horvat $8,000,000 per plus it makes no sense with Lindholm and Kadri as your main cs to pay Horvat that much money. This is how teams get into cap hell situations.

LOL Vancouver will get better players than Dube and Kylington back for Bo Horvat.

Horvat is going to be worth a lot but the team that trades for him needs to be able to extend him and the extension needs to be reasonable in the 7 to 7.5 million range. If horvat wants more then that he immediately becomes overpaid based on his body of work in the NHL to date.

With Calgarys cap situation Horvat is essentially rental, and Flames have Lindholm and Kadri at C. But the value is awful for Vancouver, they could to a lot better with some other team.

There you go!! Is my proposal really that far off?? I don’t think so. I’ll even add Matthew Phillips as I know Sutter won’t give him a chance anyways, and he played junior out on the coast.

this doesn't really make sense, since the Flames already have Kadri, Lindholm and Backlund up the middle.

Lindholm also plays worse on the wing than he does at center and I don't think Kadri or Backlund have much experience on the wing. And on defense, DeSimone and Mackey do not look like NHL players, so Flames really could use Kylington back. I actually think this trade might make the Flames worse despite adding a really good player.

noted, irrelevant. guess what, when you're looking at young players, their trajectory usually goes up... so what he did in the past is an argument that is intellectually disingenuous. It's not like he's 33 and on the downward trend.
He scored 31 last year and will likely have 40+ this year. (on a 67 goal pace currently lol).

The guy is 27. This is his 9th season and you call him young? "Young players trajectory usually go up" my ass. Horvat is a seasoned vet, who is having a start for the ages. He is a serviceable 2C, who will bring you 60p/season if healthy. Nothing points otherwise.

Kadri points at late career improvement. They are actually quite similar players.
