I feel like he deserved it for staying as thin as his Weapons character the whole wait for the movie to actually be made, from what I remember he was the only person that stuck around after the initial filming was delayed due to the strikes and had to be re-cast

My quibble is that with a couple of exceptions, the Resident Evil games focus on highly trained/S.T.A.R.S. members dealing with the zombie outbreak, and they can barely hold their own. Having the movie focus on a random schmoe caught up in an outbreak is pretty much the premise of every zombie movie.

Plus the setting is always huge. The games are famous for gothic mansions, creepy train cars, and so on.

To be fair, the first few Resident Evil games (0-2) often feature pretty inexperienced STARS/cops as protaganists. I know that's different from an organ delivery guy (?) but Rebecca Chambers was a rookie medic during the incident and it was Leon's first day on the job.

I do agree that the setting so far does not feel like Resident Evil outside of the Racoon City name. After Weapons I have full faith in Cregger to deliver a good flick, even if it doesn't hit all the notes I'd like as a RE superfan.

I wrote a more serious comment on Salem's Lot in the vampire thread, but I also watched another TV-Movie by one of 70's-80's masters of horror...

Summer of Fear (Craven, 1978) - Like Hooper, and like Romero, Craven launched his horror career with a huge film that he had trouble to match afterwards - there's 12 years between The Last House on the Left and A Nightmare on Elm Street, and 6 pretty bad films (I guess the original The Hills Have Eyes could be approached in some interesting angles). Summer of Fear is just a very bland and poor and prude variation on the Teorema narrative where a visitor comes in the house and seduces/affects the whole family - it's just that here the visitor is a witch who nobody knows is not a real cousin. Linda Blair's lack of talent is disruptive as she always is outside of her original role. 2/10

I watched that a couple of years ago, I can't remember much about it aside from it being no good.

After the awful last remake, don't have any reason to think this will be good

And I don't see anyone ever be able to replace Englund

They should spice things up and have Johnny Depp play Freddy.
