Movies: Horror Movie Discussion

I didn't like anything about this movie either and haven't given Pearl or maxxxine a watch because of it. A lot of people seem to really love them though.

I read your review before writing mine, we're in lockstep. (Un)fortunately, I was gifted the digital codes for X and Pearl, so I'm going to check out the latter for sure. So I'll probably force myself to watch Maxxxine too.

It stinks. This is the first horror movie I've watched since last December (I was watching something else with X in the title)

I got burned. Didn't see the link and thought you were doing research for the ultimate guide to porn thread. Now I'm so disappointed.

I have generally not liked the other Ti West works I've seen, and now have to add X to that list.

My comments on the trilogy are here. Not a huge fan, but I think the first two are well worth seeing. I do like The House of the Devil quite a bit though.

I just watched this video on the history of jump scares. It was rather interesting, especially the earlier stuff.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)

Slow paced Vampire film with two central characters, the lovers. Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston who complement each other well, sharing passion and liquid `refreshments`. Set in Detroit and Tangiers, some interesting shots in both places. Don`t know if Jim Jarmusch`s aim was a satire, it`s not very scary. Redeemed for me by an exquisite score including a mesmerizing solo near the end of the film by Yasmine Hamdan. Certainly different.

VERY slow paced Vampire film.
Seems like a trait in Jim Jarmusch`s films. Whether it`s filmed in a apartment, cab, hotel lobby, coffee shop, prison cell...I like how he uses music to move the story along, what there is of it because they are usually pretty simple offbeat tales.
