Horrible rumor from Hacksaw on 1090

Say it is true that the Kings are interested in Iginla. If that is the case, then somebody is going (the popular choice being Stoll), and Richards will have to be slotted as the third center on the depth chart.

So what could a lineup with Iginla look like? I'm guessing something like this...

Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Frattin-Carter-Iginla
Clifford-Richards-Toffoli
King-Lewis-Nolan
Fraser

I think I'd be just as content with Carter on RW and Richards as the 2nd C. Not sure if Iginla has much left to offer at this point in his career.

Sign me up. That's a great, deeeeeep lineup. Iginla would be a huge upgrade over Stoll offensively.

Scored 67 points last season. 33 points in 44 games would equate to 61 points over a full season this year. Stepped up with 12 points in 15 games in the playoffs. I don't think he's done.

If he'd sign for $4 million per for two years, Lombardi has to make room for him.

Hilarious, remember growing up listening to 690 with Hartman and Chet Forte (after Philly Billy), Jim Rome, Hacksaw and of course Mason/Ireland...

But going back on topic, would love Iginla on the Kings but I just don't see how with the cap going down how its possible...

It's not unless we trade a good player to open room. Like Stoll or something and roll 3 lines with Richards and Carter separate. But if it's true it's bye bye Holloway.

With Stoll gone it could look something like this:

FORWARDS
Dustin Brown ($3.175m) / Jeff Carter ($5.273m) / Tyler Toffoli ($0.870m)
Matt Frattin ($0.488m) / Anze Kopitar ($6.800m) / Jarome Iginla ($4.000m)
Kyle Clifford ($0.870m) / Mike Richards ($5.750m) / Justin Williams ($3.650m)
Dwight King ($0.750m) / Colin Fraser ($0.825m) / Trevor Lewis ($0.900m)
Jordan Nolan ($0.700m) / Linden Vey ($0.900m) /

DEFENSEMEN
Robyn Regehr ($3.000m) / Drew Doughty ($7.000m)
Willie Mitchell ($3.500m) / Slava Voynov ($4.167m)
Jake Muzzin ($0.850m) / Matt Greene ($2.950m)
Keaton Ellerby ($0.735m) /

GOALTENDERS
Jonathan Quick ($5.800m)
Ben Scrivens ($0.550m)

A little left over to keep Martinez until Willie is back. Or just Sign Scuds and LTIR Willie.

Where are all the Kings fans? Where are all the Duck fans? Where are all the Gulls fans? Stand up and gimme a slapshot from the blueline! I want to talk puck with you!!

This only works if we trade Stoll. Definitely not a bad idea, though, on paper.

Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Frattin-Carter-Toffoli
King-Richards-Iginla
Clifford-Lewis-Vey
Fraser

Or if we wanted to load up in the top six and move Lewis to third line C:

Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Iginla-Richards-Carter
Frattin-Lewis-Toffoli
King-Fraser-Vey
Clifford

A significant salary being moved is virtually a prerequisite to acquiring Iginla, though. The odd man out in fans' eyes is likely Stoll, but who knows who it would be in Dean and Darryl's eyes.

I think we are perfectly capable of rolling three lines with Kopitar-Carter-Richards down the middle with Iginla. The key to that lineup is not sticking Richards with scrubs on his wings, which is a total waste of Richards.

Definitely the "sexiest" lineup possible going into next year. Personally, I put the odds of Penner or Holloway signing as significantly higher than Iginla, though.

No worries guys, we have Matt Frattin we don't need anyone else, we're totally ****ing gonna destroy everyone. Don't forget powerhouse Regehr, who will **** everyone up like nobodies business. Other teams don't stand a god damned chance next year.

So what is so wrong about our getting Frattin? How can you be soooooooo certain that having him on the team isn't going to be one of the missing pieces that we have been needing? Further more why are YOU pinning so much on our signing Regehr? I mean I can bet you that the Kings don't see him as anymore than our 2nd pairing SAH if not our 3rd. NOBODY but you have been saying anything but acceptable things about our having signed the guy or at least most are able to accept the fact that he is filler that unfortunately we need at this point in time.

What happens if we were to go into next season without Mitchell or Scuderi? Is it better to have at least ONE experienced vet SAH D on our team or the possibility of none?

With WM's status still hopeful but unknown and the fact that Rob is going to test free agency what would you do if you were DL? Shop around and hope that you can outbid for a player that you HOPE fits in with team? Do you think you will get Ferrence for as cheap as Regehr came to us? You won't. When you look at the available D coming on the market Regehr makes allot of sense to me.

Finally why are you so upset these days? It is freaking JUNE. Nobody has said anything about our standing pat especially where our D is concerned. Do you have so little faith in DL and the group that brought us our 1st Stanley Cup that you are actually this upset about things today?

If so I have to hope that you are alone in your fears because to be as upset as you have been lately this early in the offseason seems a little over reactionary to me and that just isn't like you.

But to each their own.

The Kings reached the Conference Finals with what they had, without Greene and Mitchell for a majority of the season and with the likes of Muzzin and Ellerby flanking the blueline.

I'd say the Kings are looking better if everyone comes back healthy and Mitchell returns to the team. The Kings don't need to add Iginla nor do they have the cap space to fit him on the roster.

Maybe they should go on a spending spree and spend like fools and end up being one of those teams with a regrettable contract that needs to be bought out over the summer. Would that satisfy you?

Remember when we all cried with Gomez and Drury signed big contracts. Look what happened. Same with Briere.

Pretty much. The Rangers, Devils, and Flyers have saved us from some mighty big headaches and the surely helped us win a cup in the long run.

I'd sign Richards to a one year prove yourself contract. if he'd take like 2.5 mill. You can never have enough centers.

You also got to do it just to make it harder on the opposing teams announcers. Probably the other team too. If I get told to cover Richards' which one? What if one of them gets kicked out of the faceoff? Who is covering that Richards?

Every year summer between 2006 and 2010 I was mad when the Kings didn't sign big name talent...I am so glad they didn't. All these smucks are getting bought out. I still can't believe we were able to get rid of Tom Preissing. Handzus turned his contract around after a miserable first season. Calder sucked, but he was on a two year deal. I always liked Scott Thornton, even though he was injured. Nagy lasted 1 year.

Let's not forget Rob Blake. He was so damn average when he returned to the Kings. At least Brad Stuart turned out okay and the Kings ended up acquiring assets for him when they dealt him to Detroit.

I'd say the best free agent signings since the salary cap was introduced has been Zdeno Chara and Marian Hossa. He's had the biggest impact in my eyes of any player who was signed as a UFA and no team has gained more than the Bruins have since signing Chara, and Hossa was the perfect compliment to go with Chicago's young offensive core. I guess you'd also have to consider Scott Niedermayer signing with the Ducks as one of the best free agent signings as well considering the impact he had with them winning the Cup.

The above listed players were worth spending big bucks on, but guys like Briere, Drury, Gomez are the types that you aren't as sure as to what type of impact they would have on their own. Hence the reason to be cautious when approaching free agents who command top dollars. Kovalchuk was probably the closest one the Kings got to signing one of those types.

I do a pretty fair Smacksaw impression....
When I still lived out there I had called in to Steve Mason's show one morning to complain about something and while I was waiting to go on the producer mentioned that Hacksaw was on vacation and asked me if I wanted to do "One Fan's Opinion," a play on Lee's "One Man's opinion" segments that ran on Mason in the Morning. So when I went on I told Mason that I could do the voice, so I did a bit off the cuff and had Mason and Dan the Fan cracking up. I actually did the segment every day that week. It was pretty fun.
You just spent 30 seconds reading about my 15 minutes, and you will never see that 30 seconds again :yo:
