Holzer + Fraser vs Komisarek + Franson

I'd like to see:

Phaneuf-Kostka
Gardiner-Gunnarson
Franson-Holzer
Liles, Fraser


I really wouldn't mind trading Liles for a high draft pick.
 
Lets see how Komi/Franson look in Randys' new system before we make any real judgement calls.
 
Am I the only person amazed that 80% of the fanbase has chosen a guy that we've absolutely bashed over the past few years, over some promising inexperienced Dmen?

Name recognition is all majority of Leaf fans care about.
 
Phaneuf - Liles
Gardiner - Gunnar/Franson
Komisarek - Kostka
Fraser/Holzer

It amazes me how so many people already are penning Kostka in as a 1st pairing D-man. Once Gards comes back, Kostka's moving down for sure. It amazes me how people put all this faith in a guy that's played 1 nhl game.

IMO, seems Gunnar and Franson are likely to be trade bait. Gunnar moreso than Franson. Mostly due to the fact that Franson hasn't even played one full season with the leafs. Wilson benching him so damn much last season was just so damn Pejorative Slured. Showing that we want to trade him off so quickly would destroy any value he has. Gunnarson has been good for us, yet hasn't stood out in any way with his play. He's been pretty solid, but nothing outstanding. He'd probably fetch something decent in return, and we won't really sacrifice much integrity with our D-core.
 
I picked Fraser and Holzer for cap reasons, which I suppose at this point in the season is unimportant. Frankly they played as safe a game as Komisarek and Franson did and were able to do it for SIGNIFICANTLY less money.
 
When Gardiner returns (not sure when) I think the best lineup would be:

Phaneuf - Gardiner
Liles - Kostka
Gunnarson - Franson

Holzer
 
The way I see it is Phaneuf, Liles, Komisarek, Gardiner, Gunnarson are locks to play.

Kostka is the hot hand we need to keep riding. I expect him to fade a little once the NHL regulars get everything back but still be an NHLer regular # 5 dman if all pans out well.

That is 6 D so who gets played after that will be a rotation and dependent on what team we're going against. If we need a bruising defensive dman then Holzer/Fraser gets the nod. If we're playing against an offensive flow team Franson gets the nod.

Considering this team deserved to win both of their first 2 games I trust Carlyle to make the right call.

Eventually someone will need to be traded and I think the odd man out will be Franson.

Carlyle is trying to win games. Not showcase Dmen for trades.

Gunnar might be traded but only if we're getting an upgrade at center, D or in goal. I personally feels he has been over-rated by most Leaf fans but nonetheless he has been one of our better dmen.

Franson on the other hand doesn't have a future with this team. Offensive dman who is stuck behind Liles, Gardiner and Phaneuf for PP time with Reilly coming soon, doesn't play short-handed, isn't great defensively 5 on 5 and isn't very physical (hitting, fighting,etc.). His best assets are what we need the least now and going forward. I fully expect him to not be with the team by the end of the season.

Dion-Kostka
Liles-Gardiner

Gunnar is going to dress.
now pick your 6th D for what you need him for.
Not as a puck mover but as a PK guy with toughness.
I prefer Fraser for this role.
 
Can I choose Holzer + Franson?

Holzer moves so well for a guy his size and can throw some nice hits. Last game he made a couple mistakes but I think he tried to impress to much. He never made those mistakes with the Marlies.

Once he settles down, he's a much better option than Fraser.

Franson over Fraser and Komisarek is very simple. He may not be physical but he can move the puck well and has a big time slapper.

I was just wondering which 2 people found more impressive. Holzer and Franson seem to be the choice of most and I figured that would be the case. I'm just a little surprised with how different the numbers are. I thought they'd be much closer.
 
Franson for sure, his shoot on the PP is very important. As for the other I dont care that much but probably Komi since we arent going to trade him anyways.
 
i dont see how they take franson out of the lineup. talk about a player getting no respect. i think he is better defensively then he gets credited for and we definitely need his shot from the point on the second pp unit.

fraser is meh, possibly as a 7ths guy to career on the cheap in case of injury.

i can see the argument for holzer over komisarek though. i suspect komi will be much improved under carlyle but i think if carlyle can improve komis value enough that we can get a decent asset for komisarek it would be worth it, especially if we can trade him without retaining salary.

Franson Komi.


Franson shot is needed on that second PP and well Komi had a good first game and I kind of want to see where it goes from there. Also not a huge Fraser fan.
