Depends on whether or not the Kings opt to attempt to retain Gavrikov. But yeah, I could see Petterson potentially getting a late 1st.

Call me pessimistic but I'm honestly skeptical that Pettersson brings back a 1st, unless a team gets really desperate and there are no other alternatives. His type of defensemen (good positional DFD without physicality) tend to not get crazily highly valued when they get moved. Look at Marino when he was moved to Utah over the off-season, 2 2nds isn't bad but it's also not anything too crazy either.

It's not impossible that something like Hoglander and a 1st for Pettersson ends up a deal, but I think Pettersson's value is closer to what Tanev brought back last year (Grushnikov and a 2nd). If Pettersson ends up going to Vancouver, I figure it would be something like:

Penguins get Hoglander, Mynio and a 2025 2nd and retain $2 million on Pettersson
Hawks get a 2025 5th from Vancouver and retain $1 million on Pettersson
Canucks get Pettersson at $1 million

I'm mentally referencing when we traded away Gavrikov.

It especially makes sense when you hear about the interest in Hoglander with Dubas, and consider the way he tends to make deals, and the sort of pickle he's in with an aging core that needs help now.

I think that actually looks like a pretty reasonable approximation of what that deal might actually look like.

I was going to say I thought Gavrikov was more of a 2-way guy than Pettersson was, but I didn't actually realize he wasn't as productive normally as he was in 2021-2022. I thought he was always a 35 point 2-way D.

Yeah the only part I'm iffy on in that deal is whether Dubas would want Mynio or would want a guy a bit closer to NHL ready. But I think the framework (Hoglander, a prospect and a 2nd) fits really well with both what Dubas has said and what he has done, and it's also a pretty mild package for the Canucks to be giving up overall for a player that everyone knows they're interested in.

I could see Dubas trying to get D-man Elias Pettersson rather than Mynio, but the same reasons that Dubas would try for him are the same reasons I think the Canucks wouldn't be keen on moving him.

Multiple teams extremely interested, here is the clip.

Sure sounds like it’s happening in the next week or sooner.

The Canucks are searching for more scoring depth with Hoglander struggling, JT out and knowing Pius Suter’s production probably won’t continue.

It also didn’t take them long to find out Lekkerimaki needs more time in the AHL too. He’s just not able to get his shot off consistently 5 on 5 yet. So he’ll need more time in the AHL, working on getting it off quicker. It’s common for a lot of kids. Problem is, it can take 20 games, 50 games or another calendar year. Some never overcome it. Lekkerimaki is a smart player, who’ll put in the work though. He got 5 games to see exactly what he’ll have to do in Abbotsford until he’s ready.

So what can they get for a 5’9” struggling player, with a $3 million price tag? It’s a tough one. Vancouver fans seen what he could do last year, so they think he’s worth more than others would. Like he said in the show, he’s not bringing a Provorov or Severson. Not by himself.

Worst thing in the NHL is a player who’s scared to make mistakes too. That’s Hoglander right now.

So I doubt they can get Cole Sillinger in return for him.

Drew O’Connor from PIT is probably their best type of player they could hope for straight up.

How about Kaapo Kakko from the Rangers? That’s a trade where both teams could still profit from the upside they know a player is capable of? Kakko would immediately help the Canucks on the walls too. Just not sure he doesn’t end up in Tocchet’s doghouse as well. Then, not to sure the Rangers wanna get smaller. You’d think Tocchet would love him, because he was a similar player type.

All that said, it does look like a trade probably is coming with Hoglander. They’ve tried all their internal options looking for more scoring, so good bet it’ll be an outside option. Once again. Just not sure Hoglander brings that by himself. They may have to dip into their futures, in return for help in the NHL though. We’ll see.

You have the Bruins giving up the 2 most valuable pieces in this deal.

Gonna be a sad day to see the short prince moved

I like his game, he is tough to defend beneath the goal line.
We’ve just been putting him in a blender after 5 games when his line was the best on the team

I'm thinking the Canucks pull a Brandon Hagel-like deal the Lightning did with Chicago.

What I mean by that is because of his good numbers and low contract he could be traded for 1st, 2nd, and two prospects.

I don't think Dhaliwal would make it a point to throw Sillingers name out there if he didn't think/know the Canucks like him.

Hoglander seems to have alot of interest. Say what you want about him being a 'buy low asset' but 24 even strength goals last season is very good for a mostly bottom 6 forward. Plus he's got a real tenacity to his game when he's on. Still young, cost controlled, and with upside.

It'll be interesting to see what happens but given he's falling out of favour with Tocchet a trade feels inevitable, like Kuz last year.

I threw out Nieto and a 3rd for Hoglander, but what I think could be more appealing for Vancouver is Puljujarvi and a 3rd for Hoglander. Puljujarvi has been really effective when he has played for the Penguins, but Sullivan doesn't seem to like him for whatever reason. Swap of one guy a coach doesn't like for another, with the Penguins throwing on the 3rd to account for Hoglander having more value.

Pettersson is wildly better than Zadorov.

Why would Vancouver trade Hoglander for a forward?

Needs to be a smaller deal. No Raty or Frederic. Boston would not do the trade as posted. Not to say they would definitely take the smaller deal but it's definitely closer.

They're not trading Hoglander for a forward, they're trading him for a 3rd and the forward is included as a contract swap.

They have Fantili, Kent Johnson, Monahan down the middle i believe....

Drafted Cayden Lindstrom, and Gavin Brindley, both Cs as well.

I dont think Sillinger is untouchable at all in CBJ.

He holds more value than Hoglander so Canucks would add but i dont think it would be astronomically more especially considering how cost controlled Hoglander is.
You say cost controlled. I say overpaid
