Trading goal scorers in their prime down the street to your biggest rival happens all the time.

Don't think that Ottawa will trade a 30 goals scorer to the habs a rival in the same division.

assuming Ottawa isnt looking to resign Hoffman, would have to be something around Beaulieu + another piece + cap dump

Sens were trying to trade up for Sergachev at the draft, I'm guessing if they were asked to trade one of their most popular forwards who is coming off back to back 25+ goal seasons to their current biggest rival, that is who they would ask for. Which I am guessing means this thread gets locked and done with.

Dorion has made it clear regardless of contract terms, Hoffman/Ceci will be on the opening night roster.

Pacioretty/Galchenyuk/Gallagher + 2nd/9th OA pick for a RFA.. yes indeed were on HFBoards.

I almost said Habs won't trade Patches or Galchenyuk, but anymore you never know. They shouldn't in any case. Ottawa has no reason to take Plekanec so he's out. Montreal can't afford to trade Beaulieu with Markov getting up there (unless there's another LD replacement that I'm not familiar with). Ottawa doesn't need/can't take Jeff Petry, I'm guessing, and Montreal doesn't need to eviscerate their defensive depth. The only player with even close value (in terms of "biggish piece" for "biggish piece" trade) left is Gallagher and there is NO way he gets traded to a division rival (especially at his cap hit, seriously ludicrously good deal).

Unless Ottawa is willing to take futures, I just don't see it happening between these two teams.

EDIT:
Pacioretty/Galchenyuk/Gallagher + 2nd/9th OA pick for a RFA.. yes indeed were on HFBoards.

lol sure.

Why would Ottawa do that? They are re-signing Hoffman. Dorion has made that clear multiple times, the latest being today. If they weren't, why would they trade Hoffman to their biggest rival for Beaulieu and something as enticing as "another piece" while also taking a cap dump back? Jeez. They'd send him out West. Threads like these are counterproductive, there's zero point if people aren't going to be realistic. When was the last time a team sold off their best goal scorer to a division rival for PIECES?

There's a reason why the Phaneuf trade was such a huge shock, and even with that trade it was only the result of both teams being very desperate and both teams being in the unique situation where there were no other teams in the league in a position to solve each others problem. (Ottawa only being able to get a top 4 if they dumped every bad contract because they are a budget team/Toronto only being able to dump Phaneuf without retaining)

A team trading their 26 year old elite even strength goal scorer to a division rival for lesser pieces rather than shipping them out West for a similar return.. yes indeed were on HFBoards.

I did see that part. It is just as senseless as the rest of it.

-Why would Ottawa send Hoffman to a division rival for pieces when they can move him out West or at the very least to the other division?
-Why would Ottawa acquire Bealieu when they already have too many defenders they cannot protect int he expansion draft?

You make fun of people for "HFBoards" type proposals, but you're the most off base person in this thread. You don't just get near 30 goal scorers in their prime from divisional rivals for easy NHL 16 style trade pieces because they aren't re-signing. When has that ever happened between two division rivals hoping to make the playoffs? It is silly and adds nothing to a discussion because it is so out of touch with reality.

Pacioretty or Galchenyuk.

From a MTL prespective, I don't trade one on one Pacioretty / Galchenyuk / Gallagher for Mike Hoffman.

I don't see him comming to Montreal for actual top 6 forward except Plekanec and Montreal would have to add.
