SO i bought a month of hockeystreams to check it out, figure this way I'll be able to watch the Olympics and everything while I decide what I want to do going forward.

Checked out a couple of the on demand streams and the quality isn't bad at all. Still working on getting it set up to stream to my TV through my ps3, but it all looks promising.

It looks like they're going to have the Olympic hockey games on a demand service, so that's good to know. I can wake up whenever and watch Canada play without having to worry about Spoilers.

Just wanted to thank everyone again for all their input. I'll let anyone who is interested know what I think once I get feeds streaming to my tv when it comes to quality.

Won't all Olympic coverage be available for free online through tsn, ctv, etc.?

I had cable for the last Olympics but I've heard everything will be broadcasted online.

Probably, but with hockeystreams you can watch games from the previous day at your leisure. At least is my impression.

Going to CBC.ca and trying to find the recorded footage without spoilers might be damn near impossible

"streaming" hockey is illegal and infringes on copyrights. It should not be discussed.

It is just to disobey an unjust law ;)

Charge fair prices without restrictions and the black market will vanish. Try to exploit people and suddenly people start looking for alternatives.

If you don't want to partake in the discussion, by all means don't.

Is GCL doing the games? There was an update released for Sochi but I don't know if they will actually broadcast anything.

I'm guessing the games are all going to be "national" and blacked out everywhere.

The rules are stupid.

I don't think the NHL has anything to do with broadcasting the olympics. It's all up to the networks.

The games probably wont even be on GCL.

I've been using Hockeystreams now for 3 years. It's cheaper, you can freeze your account, it runs great, they constantly update and improve the service, customer service is almost instant, it works on almost every platform, is HD, no blackouts, has NHL, AHL and CHL, and you can choose which broadcast to watch, that way you can always listen to Denis Potvin.... or never listen to him.

Also, the games are both live and on PVR, so you can start a game late but watch from the beginning and skip commercial until you catch up. Game,is are also on demand within an hour or two

You can do everything noted above except watch AHL and CHL through GCL. I'm not trying to be super judgemental or anything but I'd like to know why people are choosing the service which steals from the NHL instead of the service that helps pay hockey players and keeps the league strong.

I see HS price is $109 for the year and I paid $99 for GCL (american price) and $4.99 per month for unblock-us which has benefits for many different services.

So you're against "stealing" from the NHL and NHLPA and choose GCL over HS, but you have no regard for the broadcast rights holder?

lel.

I am extremely unhappy with the blackouts, and for that reason, I will never waste money on GCL again.

I may try out HS next season. Unless you are completely out of market, like in Asia for example, GCL is practically useless.

Yes, I definitely don't care the slightest bit about the broadcast holders who continually screw over consumers. The guys who play a professional sport for a short period of their life, I care about them. The league that operates and provides entertainment to me for 9 months a year, I also care about.

Let's not advertise this.

Why? No laws are being broken, no illegal activity and NHL doesn't lose any money.

Blackouts.

Easiest thing in the world to avoid. Takes less than 5 minutes one time to avoid them.

Has anyone tried PS4 Gamecentre with a nice TV/Monitor?

It looks like it's in 4k/Blu Ray quality. It's unreal.

I'd never go back from Gamecentre. I'm also out of market though.

It will be Blu Ray quality, which is HD 1080, but 4K is twice the resolution and not available for games yet.

blu ray quality GCL? that'd be nice, but it's not even close. blu ray has 8 times more information than the best GCL stream, and 4k is 4 times 1080p resolution.

GCL at 720p is pretty poor but what can you do.

I don't know where you're getting your info from but either it's faulty or your math is off. I can see why you're confused in regards to 4K, but really you're jus the victim of good marketing.

Bluray has a resolution of 1920 X 1080

GCL has at least 1280 X 720 but should go up to 1920 X 1080

4K resolution is 3840 pixels × 2160 (2X 1080)

it's not really important but if you want to know the math

best GCL stream is 4.5mbs, bluray is typically about 40mbps, so about 8x more info

4k is exactly 4times the pixels of 1080p
