Right there with them on Schaefer and Misa. My two favorite guys this year. Don't need a LD in Chicago in the slightest but if we do end up winning the lottery again, I have a hard time passing on him this year. Feel like he's been the best player.

I like seeing Carbonneau this high, have been keeping tabs on him for awhile.

Two questions for @Mark Edwards and @JeromeHP --

1) Since you guys were high on Lindstrom last year, why are you not similarly as high on McQueen?

2) What do you think of Carbonneau's teammate, Mateo Nobert?

Good for them. Time will tell if they’re right, but they are hot take artists.
This is overly-reductive and insulting to them, honestly. These are people who show their work, they aren't twitter rankings.

If you don't agree with their list, I mean that's cool, but adding imagined motivations to it is weird.

Also they adjust. I never get the big reactions to fall rankings. There’s no point.

This is like getting mad at the CFP rankings the first week they come out. It doesn’t really matter until the final edition when they seed the tournament as teams will lose and drop. Same here- reacting to an ongoing rough draft that is based on limited info.

Having the consensus 1 at 3? Having a consensus top 4 at 5? Having a guy at 6 that hasn’t even been making top 15’s yet?

Of course it is.
Its a mid term rankings, things are bound to move and some players are risers. first point has a Stutzle above lafreniere vibe, nothing too hot takey when they did it afterall. Top4 at five is like… almost sarcasm: having said that i dont think they want to be influenced by consensus anyways

Pavel is just mad someone doesn't have Hagens ranked first. Anything he doesn't personally agree with is considered a hot take.

It's literally November. Nothing is "against consensus" right now because it's way too early for there to even be a consensus.

Yeah, but it's not like they're the first ones to have Hagens 2nd or 3rd. Most of recent rankings I've seen have Schaefer and/or Misa ahead of Hagens, at least in Québec 😅
Only other one I’ve seen in English is Pronman. Don’t know about the French language ones.

You are the one that is suggesting I have some motivation to put them down.

I’m just calling their tendencies as I see them. Whether they end up right or now, time will tell. I don’t know what you are asking. It’s basically asking to shut down dissent. Should we not discuss tendencies of the different lists?

Speak for yourself Mr “I have Martone first because I have no actual opinion and I just go by what my team needs and disguise it as an opinion on who is the best.”

Year after year this publication comes out with hot take lists. I say the same thing every year. I don’t find it very realistic, but anyway they are allowed to think that. I’m also allowed to call it that way.

People here have no problem complaining with the consensus lists and trashing them, but because they feel these people are personable (as long as you agree with the owner), they are willing to go to bat for them and then trash the others that they don’t feel a connection to.

Personally, I just call all of the tendencies as I see them. I have no connection to any of them. This is a message board and I give my opinion on hockey as I see it.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. You get shit for following the same thinking as everyone else, you get shit for being different. Not sure what you want from these lists.

They have spoken to many times how they create their lists and what goes into it. I don't think they are doing anything for a reaction, rather just ranking the players how they see them.

People having this type of reaction to different opinions is not very helpful, tbh.

You aren't just disagreeing, you are implying that they don't even believe in their list when you say they are motivated by shock value.

I don't understand how you can't see the difference.

You are creating a fictional tale that doesn’t exist. I am not thinking about this as deep as you seem to be crafting for me.

Do they believe what they say? Probably.

Even as a complete nobody hockey fan that doesn’t proclaim any special knowledge, I’ve learned that when it comes to trying to get NHL draft rankings right sometimes it’s best to not throw every wild hunch you have at the wall. Easier though to do so when your job doesn’t depend on being right (as it does for NHL teams), and also easy when you have people trying to silence dissent because they agree with the hot-take-y nature.
