I’m fine with Doan having some low level title where he can learn as long as we bring in an experienced guy like Hextall. Something like Pres/GM Hextall with Doan as “Special Assistant to the GM” or “VP of Hockey Ops”. He could contribute ideas but have no decision-making power.

Sidenote: Do any of the rumoured candidates have a tag along assistant? ie Dave Nonis to Brian Burke, Treliving to Maloney, etc? If not then even more so that position could be open to Sullivan and/or Doan.

Thankfully the Pens hired Todd Rierden, preventing us from doing so.

I'm curious who we look at as MacLean replacements. Obviously it depends on who the head coach is.

In terms of the rest of the staff, I could be okay with keeping Housley in the event Tocchet is fired. Housley is kinda like Tocchet where he was a highly regarded assistant (with Nashville) at one point. Maybe a head coaching change helps wash the stink off of Housley. Could potentially have him run the PK instead of the PP as well.

I was really hoping for Jacques Martin but NYR beat us to it.

You should have to do one thing well before you get to do the next thing. This is common sense and I know you agree with it when you're being objective.

there is not one path to being a GM, so not sure this applies here.

I think it’s token make-work without meaning.

It’s not token work. He helped set up the bubble, ran the board of governors meeting, helped in the situation room, assisted Burke with the Splegner cup.

I don’t think he’s ready for GM or AGM but I don’t mind him In a hockey ops role. It’s not like Hextall or even Sullivan would give him undue influence.

@rt since you’re buds with Morgan- can you ask him if Doan is interested in hockey ops, per Feckless’ point?

On Nattie Hattie podcast Morgan indicates he didn’t get sense that Doan was in the mix for GM.

I thought we were going to see a Sullivan/RT duo, but since they don't see eye to eye let's see what happens.

I’m sorry but catch-all “helper” work sounds EXACTLY like token make-work. He sounds like a summer intern.

Thoughts on Doug Weight as a replacement to MacLean? His Islanders teams could do some pretty wild shit offensively.

They gave up the most goals in the league over his two years. How much of that is him or personnel is up for debate but I would have questions.

I truly cannot understand Craig’s Olczyk article today. Nor the comment section. I guess maybe Craig being a Hawks fan is what did it? Olczyk being a really nice guy, who treats everyone nicely and has great stories?

“Knows the game” seems like a great qualification for a commentator. He doesn’t have one day of experience running a hockey team at any level. He’s likable. He’s popular. He’s Eddie O. Who doesn’t love Eddie O?
He has no business anywhere near an NHL front office until he’s worked some kind of a job where he’s proved something.

What’s the difference between Olczyk and Tyson Nash or Paul Bissonnette? That’s a serious question.

Olczyk is probably, and amazingly, even less qualified than Shane Doan.

Might as well let Garland be 1RW and GM simultaneously. Why not? Same difference.

Anyways, I now fully expect Olczyk to get the job completely without any merit whatsoever and based solely on interpersonal popularity and being very “classy”.

I think Craig needs to eat so he farted out an article about Eddie O, nothing more.

If they actually hire him then all is lost and nothing matters.

Some of these 'interviews' seem like second opinions on Tocchet.

Olcyzk has less experience now than Chayka did when going from AGM to GM.

If they don’t hire Hextall, get ready for my tantrum. Full toddler meltdown. I’ve got two kids under six years of age. I have the experience needed to make it epic.

Friend of mine had her toddler go on a tantrum in a Target some years back. So she got down on the floor with the kid and rolled around screaming and yelling too. After a few seconds her kid completely stopped all the crying and dumbfoundedly watched how silly mom was acting, along with several onlookers. Interesting life lesson.

I highly recommend giving it a try should the opportunity present itself.

I still believe the best Doan employment option would be something involving player development, ideally coaching at some level in Tucson at least to start. Don’t know if Doan would be interested in a full time Tucson gig, but maybe there’s an org position where he could split time in Tucson with other player development responsibilities?

Yep clicks plus he heard that he may be interviewed = make an article. Can't blame him, but I won't be concerned until the national talking heads start mentioning it. Regardless, hate that we are "two weeks" behind Florida on this.

I haven’t tried that approach. Mine are nearly six and nearly three (they share a birthday, three years apart). So luckily, not too many tantrums these days. Hissy fits are fairly split among the four household members, and are pretty few and far between. Knock wood.

Born on the same day, three years apart?

Correctomundo. And roughly 9.5 months after my birthday. Which my family loves to bring up annually. “Getting excited, buddy? It’s almost your birthday. The one day a year you don’t have to sleep on the couch!”, etc.

Aren’t families grand?

It also sucks seeing my suspicions confirmed that after all the Florida GM chatter on basically a daily basis, we wouldn’t hear a peep from anyone on our search until the day before the team is ready to announce.
