Is a team like STL really going to let Bill Armstrong, who doubles as AGM and Director of Amateur Scouting, step away just weeks before the draft?

Maybe he joins the Coyotes afterward and Sullivan just handles the draft, but that's a bit assbackward.

Is there any confirmation that Hextall has officially interviewed?

The thing that is encouraging about Burke is that he has probably watched most of the Coyotes games the last few years. He probably has a pretty decent read on what's happening, and he wasn't a part of any of it. He's had no skin in the game creating a biased view of what he's seeing. I hope he's assessed Tocchet's performance objectively. They might be buddies, but Burke doesn't seem like he'd jeopardize this opportunity for a guy he didn't hire, even if they are friends.

Burke's been doing everything in his power since he retired to get a GM job some day. It's clear how badly he wants this. I'm sure he wants this particular job more than anything. If Tocchet is under-performing, and putting this opportunity at risk, Burke will fire him.

Burke is competitive enough to push friendships aside on the ice:
19 Days of Doan, Day 10: Fisticuffs with his goalie
^ Great article about he and Doan getting into fist fights at practice a couple of times back in the day.

Loved that they fought and still worked together with Team Canada as well. You need to be able to disagree.

NHL Draft is moving ahead a couple days, from Oct 9-10 to Oct 6-7 (midweek!)

That's less than a month from today. We really need to get the GM in place this week. Supposedly they're narrowing down the list.
I'm sure the draft selections are in place by the scouts and Sullivan or are at least preparing the final list. I would expect a new GM very soon.
