Just announced for publication this coming November is a brand new book by the legendary Brian McFarlane.

Official product description:

Publisher said:
“An official NHL authorized biography of the Toronto Maple Leafs by one of hockey's most important, prominent, and preeminent Hockey Hall of Famers, Brian McFarlane. A stunning tribute to Maple Leaf history with an extensive, never-before-seen collection of Leaf's organization photographs. On February 14, 1927, Conn Smythe led a group of investors to purchase the National Hockey League's struggling St. Patricks franchise. The new team would become the Toronto Maple Leafs. Almost a century later the Leafs would dazzle their fans with hockey excellence and claiming 11 league championships. The stories and photographs collected in this essential and definitive book about The Toronto Maple Leafs, captures a new history of one of the NHL's most storied hockey clubs told through the the eyes of Brian McFarlane, who was there, with them, every step of the way.“

Has anyone heard anything about a potential release date for the second volume of Grant Pennell's Summit Series analysis to follow Sitting On Tretiak?

I believe the author said on here last year that he was hoping for early 2024, which didn't happen. I hope the sequel is still in the works.

On February 26th, the author told me personally, "it's a long process. Probably another year or so."

It would be a shame if the second volume never came out. This book was extremely unique - by far the most detailed look at the on-ice events in the summit series.

But it needed an editor.... badly. Problem with that is it's such a huge book on such a niche topic (with so many spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors on every page), that any good editor would deserve to be paid well in excess of what one would expect gross sales to be. So we have to take it as it is.... warts and all.

Has anyone read Frank Pagnucco's book "Heroes: Stars of Hockey's Golden Era" (published 1985)? On the website "Greatest Hockey Legends" I've found some of Ed Litzenberger's recollections of his life and career - derived from Pagnucco's book. If Frank's book is one where we hear - so to speak - from the stars themselves, I would love to get my hands on it.

I have it. I've never read through it cover to cover but have used it in the past as a reference when building player bios in the ATD/MLD. It's decent, absolutely worth a pickup, but it's for the most part pretty fluffy. Not too much about the players on the ice.

I just picked up the Joe Watson book and have the Sundin one on pre-order... can't wait!

Speaking of hockey history, is the 1969-70 season considered the last season of the 1960s, or is it considered the first season of the 1970s? I've always gone with the latter.

Hello for those who read french, a bunch of good books published recently. " Le CH et son peuple" written by Brendan Kelly is really nice. Also the biography of Lupien.

I can't imagine the book of Brendan Kelly won't be published in english

This came out in October and it completely missed my radar. Had no idea. Written with Michael McKinley too, who's pretty great.

And this french language book on Quebecois goaltenders.

Here's a translated synopsis:

For a generation, they formed a veritable dynasty in the National Hockey League. Having proudly followed in the footsteps of Jacques Plante and Georges Vézina, Quebec goaltenders Martin Brodeur, Patrick Roy, Marc-André Fleury and Roberto Luongo sit atop the list of masked men with the most wins in the history of the Bettman circuit.

While Fleury's career is coming to an end, our homegrown goalies are now an endangered species: Samuel Montembeault of the Canadiens is the only other player from La Belle Province who regularly defended a net in the best hockey league in the world during the 2023-2024 season.

To inspire future generations, these goalkeepers, as well as several others such as Marc Denis, Patrick Lalime, José Théodore, Jean-Sébastien Giguère, Pascal Leclaire, Jocelyn Thibault and Stéphane Fiset, tell their stories in this book, what pushed them to put on the big leggings and wear masks that have become true works of art over the years.
