It could be the equipment. If he is using a stiffer stick or heavier gloves. Little things like that can change how the puck sits or bounces.

If I were running the team and Luke were healthy, this is where I'd like to stick him on the first unit as a change of pace, since if you cheat on Luke he's gonna blow right by you.

People are sleeping on his defensive game because he's small and had a couple bad plays on the PP in the first period vs Washington.
