That is indeed crazy.....thanks for the info !Around $50 if you're willing to wait a year. PSA stopped taking new orders in to catch up.

If you actually have a Gretzky rookie it's in your best interest to have it graded. You're looking at $2000 even if it comes back PSA5.
Also FYI there are two versions of Gretzky rookies. The O-Pee-Chee version is more valuable than Topps.I actually have 2. One that I would bring around to card shows to "trade" (which I never did) and one that I kept in a hard case at home.
I know my trade version wasn't mint. It would have been near mint at best.
Maybe I'll take the best 10 or so cards and bring it to a card shop (if there is such a thing) and have someone determine if it is worth going through grading.
appreciate the help.
$50 to make $1000 is reasonable. The wait time is brutal. I still have cards with Beckett that were sent in May last yr.That is indeed crazy.....thanks for the info !

I'm tempted to go grab a box of Black Diamond since I did so well in series 2 lol. Hit 5 Kaprizov Young Guns and sold them all .$50 to make $1000 is reasonable. The wait time is brutal. I still have cards with Beckett that were sent in May last yr.
You buy a case or random boxes? That's pretty damn good luck to hit 5 lol.I'm tempted to go grab a box of Black Diamond since I did so well in series 2 lol. Hit 5 Kaprizov Young Guns and sold them all .
All the suckers buying Kaprizovs, 23 year old Russian winger playing in Minnesota, zero chance he has any hobby potential, he'll be a $50 card next year.
All from breaks. All random teams too, got real lucky lol. I ripped two boxes myself and only got Cozenz and Romanov in them. You buy a case or random boxes? That's pretty damn good luck to hit 5 lol.
That is pretty lucky haha. Stutzle is the guy I want from this series. All from breaks. All random teams too, got real lucky lol. I ripped two boxes myself and only got Cozenz and Romanov in them.
I can't see myself opening a lot of products this year, just not the same without a top rookie on your team like Makar to chase. I like Byram but we all know he doesn't have much potential in the hobby. Next year I'll definitely PC Newhook though. That is pretty lucky haha. Stutzle is the guy I want from this series.
So for the folks that do regularly grade, in a couple months time I'd finally like to grade some of mine. Bad timing in terms of cost and return time but I've been too busy the last 3 years and only hope to have time in about maybe 2 months.
Question is what to have done? I have complete sets from mid 70's through about mid 90's. A bunch of individual cards from 50's to mid 70's. The complete sets are in very, very good shape. Older individual ones hit and miss. I feel like the mid 70's up I should at least grade the HOF rookies. Older ones maybe just the HOF guys? I have Howe's, Plante's, Beliveau's etc. I would also kind of like to grade other Oiler Gretzky's. Would be a metric shiznit ton of cards though. Even just looking at the HOF rookies ones that's 74 cards. A couple (more recents) in there don't carry much value but most are pretty good:
There's probably some non HOF rookies and such in there I should consider too. All told I might be looking at 150 - 200 cards. Oof!
Other thing I struggle with when it comes to PSA is they want you take a stab at what you think it will grade.
Oh, that's right. Hmmm...I can't believe this but I can't remember which I had....it's probably been 20 years since I looked at my cards. I really can't remember what I had. This is going to bug me.
Might have to top by my parents....and find the cards.
I'd be interested in buying if you sent me a few picsis there any point to considering selling cards that are ungraded? maybe do a bulk sale to a collector?
probably they'll just live in my parents basement until I sell them at a garage sale in 15 years.
OPCP is good stuff no doubt. I cracked two boxes last night I got for under $400 per. (A reasonable but not insane deal). It's in all honesty mind boggling . I was an avid collector seller in the early 90's via the Hockey News and the SCD magazines...we even had a story/mention in the SCD . I basically walked away in the mid 90's to pursue other interests and have not followed it since .
The grading thing is what throws me off...it would take so much time to go through things . I have some key cards...like a Gretzky RC and it IMO is pretty damn FINE ....and a couple of mid to late 70's OPCsets plus some Pat Roy- 86 -92 sets of course .
As far as card lots...I would have to look...I think I have a 50 or 100 count of Forsberg UD rookies and some Jagr and Sundin Premiere RC's . I also have a lot of Ranger singles from the 50's onward . If it is a crap weekend...I might look through and pull some stuff...sounds like it is the time to sell some stuff . I do however know where there are multiple Gretzky/Lemieux Rookies ....I had a good buying clientele back in the day .
Maybe...unless the card gets swapped or lost of damaged in the process or the company goes bankrupt or whatever or the pyramid crashes and the market drys up of buyers .....can they be insured before you mail them out ? You would have to think if you had a 4,000.00 Gretzky and you offered it for sale for 3000.00 somebody would grab it and spend the extra 50to grade it and then resell it for 3500 -4000 ???? Seems like a quick way to make a few bucks .$50 to make $1000 is reasonable. The wait time is brutal. I still have cards with Beckett that were sent in May last yr.
I had tons of that stuff from the 80's and 90's but we shipped boxes and boxes of singles of stars and goalies to Finland back then at a premium . I remember going to the grocery store and buying the Selanne packages of Kraft Dinner or pudding or whatever it was....and I had more KD and such in big bags LOL....then one person could ever eat .OPCP is good stuff no doubt. I cracked two boxes last night I got for under $400 per. (A reasonable but not insane deal).
But the real message is this, for the key HOF and even HOVG players, even sets like Pro Set brands and Topps command triple digit premiums.
Are the Topps Tiffany hockey cards worth anything ?OPCP is good stuff no doubt. I cracked two boxes last night I got for under $400 per. (A reasonable but not insane deal).

If that.I'm tempted to go grab a box of Black Diamond since I did so well in series 2 lol. Hit 5 Kaprizov Young Guns and sold them all .

No one will pay 3500 for a raw Gretzky no matter how good it looks. That's why you should always grade them.Maybe...unless the card gets swapped or lost of damaged in the process or the company goes bankrupt or whatever or the pyramid crashes and the market drys up of buyers .....can they be insured before you mail them out ? If they're graded and deemed authentic I'd buy any pack that year at that price.Do people really spend 3K USD on getting '79/80 o pee chee packs that have no Gretzky in it?
Only the absolute top players in hockey have value. Kaprizov is not that level, we're talking McDavid and MacKinnons of the world. If that.
The hockey card market bottomed out. If your paying ridiculous prices for young guns your silly.
It was dealers trying to hype YG's like Prizm basketball. It's not happening any more
Oh of course.Only the absolute top players in hockey have value. Kaprizov is not that level, we're talking McDavid and MacKinnons of the world.
The prices the run of the mill 1st liner are selling for right now is insane.
Yea I'm afraid it's inevitable the market will crash. Like what is this resurgence of 90s hockey cards? They used to be worth as much as the cardboard they were printed on, everyone has piles of them in their garage.Oh of course.
The superstars will always command ridiculous money.
I'm talking Pius Suter preselling at 100 bucks. That will be a ten dollar card this time next year.
I've been getting cards graded for over a decade now and I have never had any issues. Not with swapping, never worried about Beckett going bankrupt, never worried about the market drying up. You would think a global pandemic would slow the market down or crash it but its been the complete opposite. Im not sure how insurance works on mail outs but I can tell you I have always had my cards returned. I was a little paranoid in the beginning when I sent my cards out so I made sure to take plenty of pics of the cards to make sure they were indeed my cards when they were returned. Always got my exact cards back.Maybe...unless the card gets swapped or lost of damaged in the process or the company goes bankrupt or whatever or the pyramid crashes and the market drys up of buyers .....can they be insured before you mail them out ?
