Sometimes you get what you paid for.

Samsonov is 3 mil goalie. That means he's average at best. And he did perform like average goalie. Don't blame him when you get what you pais for. You can't expect Vezina level play when you spend 3 mil for goalie.

Problem is that Dubas paid for regular season softball player Marner a Hart caliber money. And same for aging star player Tavares.

If they had 7 mil goalie aka Markstrom or smth similar you can expect better results.

It is pathetic to see people on here trying to defend the Leafs, although, at least, they are in the small minority. I admire their loyalty -- but loyalty, ultimately, has to be deserved. It is not unconditional.

The evidence is clear, people. Stop arguing specifics about this and that. Zoom back and look at the overall reality. This team doesn't work in the playoffs. Fundamental changes have to happen, not around the edges.

I started this year thinking the defense was the weak point, and ended up thinking they are the strong point. There are 4 defensemen who are hard to play against -- Edmundson, McCabe, Benoit (who is amazing), and Lyubushkin (who is much better than advertised). The real problem is Rielly and Lillegren. Especially Rielly: overrated, cannot quarterback the power play, is not a #1 really, defensively falls asleep. Get rid of him.

For starters, this has to happen:

• Trade Marner ASAP. For two good players. I am so sick of seeing him directly in the slot 12 feet in front of the goalie pass the puck to some guy over by the boards. He is a petulant child. Get rid of him.
• Trade Rielly. Get a defensemen who can play that position.
• Trade Tavares, even though I like him and admire him. The change has to be brutal.
• Fire Keefe. he is a joke. Last night, he looked like he was just watching the game. Trip Knies, clearly, and no reaction at all.
• Find a real goalie who is not a head case and also does not get constantly injured, and oh, stops the puck.

Only once it became clear that they weren't going to win the division. They had the chance to play Washington or Tampa. The Leafs would have beaten both of those teams.

While I agree about the shriveled up offense, the series really came down to one keeper making every big save and just about every exceptional save over the first 4 games, while ours did not. If Woll starts this series, I don't think this goes past 5 games and for the past few days we're talking about what we need to do to beat FLA.

Dubas had 5 bloody years to get this team over the hump.He changed out all the surrounding role players year after year and nothing…….why because the core 5 are the issue.
So forgive me when I think that he would have done anything different if he had stayed in control.
One of the main reason Shanny dumped him is because of his stupid whining presser about asking his family or some nonsense like that. Shanny couldn’t really trust him after that gong show.
Having said all that I’m not a big fane of Tre or Shanny and I think all of them should go.

Goaltending needs to be blamed, as well as the lack of scoring. You can’t allow soft goals in the playoffs and Samsonov allowed some stinkers.

I think they had the right mix to win. Some of the pieces need to change, but the backend made it miserable for Bos. Domi and Bert provided secondary scoring. Too bad only Nylander could scorevin the last two games

Ya it was an interesting mix. On one hand you have lower paid players adding value above and on the other hand you had an overpaid core that failed miserably like usual and basically one of Dubas’s goalie reclamation projects all but killed out hope

The Morgan Rielly hate is definitely an overreaction and ridiculous. This is his first poor playoff performance and it wasn't even that bad... just 'meh'. He's been our best playoff performer until this year.

Rielly needed to switch onto Pasta, Marner going that low would open the top up. Otherwise what was Rielly doing? Absolutely nothing. Its just bad defensive IQ.

Yeah Rielly is literally headed in the wrong direction at the moment the puck is dumped into his corner.. but ya it was Marner’s fault.

Both had to be better there but the thing that kills me most is Teflon Willy with the controller disconnected in the middle.

It should also be pointed out that most coaches including AAA are absolute jokes as far as hockey knowledge is concerned. You are clearly an example of this as blaming the goaltender when Reilly let Pastrnak blow past him and go in all alone untouched. Samsonov would have had to make a split second decision to go after that puck and it is simply a play that very few goalies would be able to succesfully make. But please do tell how often you had to deal with elite, pre-set plays like that one lol.

Any coach who has half a clue does not blame the goaltender as the reason that this goal was scored. I will be speaking with a buddy who was a former NHL goaltender tomorrow and I guarantee you that he will disagree with you......perhaps you should have coached him lol.

After 8 years this core still needs to change. You can praise the team for games 5-7 (and rightfully so, that’s how a playoff team should be built) but you can’t excuse the fact that they did it to themselves. Games 1-4 were complete Leafs dog crap. And 3 games does not excuse this fact. 3 games and for the most part 8 years.
The core always does this. Not show up on time, lost in the fog, looking sad in the face, excuses, etc. They aren’t trustworthy on start to finish focus and drive.

That’s why it needs to change. If management can’t see this now I don’t know what to tell you. It needs a better culture because you get used to losing. Bertuzzi looked like he was going to cry because he’s new. The core just changes clothes and goes home for the summer.

Just trade all the prospects for picks and everyone will stop complaining that we don't have assets...

People think because we have as many picks that we don't have assets.

This is essentially the opposite of what Lou left, he left picks but no prospects, and I'd much rather have cheap prospects.

How many 1sts/2nds/3rds are we getting for Cowan, Minten, Grebyonkin, and Niemela? Probably refill our entire cupboard of picks.

I feel like there's no reason for Mitch to waive his NTC and despite the overreactions and multiple posts I've read about threatening to sit a ppg+ player for the season if he doesn't waice would be extremely detrimental for team morale and future free agents/player re-signings.

As for JT, no value in a trade and much better option is to try to sign him to a value contract to be our cheap 2nd line C, top 6 winger, or even 3C option. He's also still a very useful player for this team, just closer to a 5m player than an 11m.

I think multiple things can be true

Samsonov let in a shit ass first goal, it’s the third time he’s let in a goal that gave Boston all the momentum. The Frederic goal, the Marchand GWG and now this. Woll would’ve stopped all of them.

And then on the pastrnak goal, he watches the puck go by him and forgets goalies have sticks

This entire season, Samsonov has made me not like goaltenders, almost everytime he played he was positionally flawed and just awful

However woll is way too injury prone to lean anything on him. I can’t see much more than a backup from him, he breaks down way too easily

Having all that said the offence is completely f***ing unacceptable. Nylander scored every one of our goals in the last 2 games. Where was the 70 goal man? Where was the “engine” of the team? Where was the captain? Where was the “true leader” Rielly? Where was the depth?

1/21 or whatever is completely unacceptable, and should have Marner moved for that alone and the entire coaching staff sacked

We pay 40+m in forwards and couldn’t score more than 2 goals a game this series

It’s honestly harder being a fan of this team sv a player, you get mocked for fun and free. At least those guys get the big bucks to no show

As I said in an earlier post, Samsonov could have easily swept that puck away from Pastrnak before he could get to it. It was a LAZY play by him, Rielly, and Marner !!!

You can’t keep losing with the same thing time and time again.
Reilly has been losing a lot longer than even these guys.
Sometimes you have to make changes. It’s just not moving forward. Nothing against him personally. But a serious change here is long overdue.
