Shanahan made a stupid snap decision few years ago when he thought hiring an analytics kid to build a cup contender was a good idea.

Hiring one of the best, young, sought-after executives as GM wasn't a snap decision. It was planned and set up for multiple years. And it was the best thing this team did in ages. Finally escaping the dinosaur thinking and old boys club that had been dragging this franchise into the gutter for decades. And then in true Leaf fashion, they made a snap emotional decision and ruined it just as we were moving past the pandemic flat cap and the second wave he provided was coming.

Woll didn't do anything special. Sam can make the saves he made. He made 1 or 2 nice ones last night.

The difference in goaltending was our heavy D finally fully settled into Boston game and they couldn't even manage shots until halfway in the game. I really enjoy watching that. In 20 years we never witness our defence beating forwards down like that and making them hesitant to crash the net.

Only thing to wonder is if Woll would have poke check Pasta. Ilyas mental weakness full display on that goal. Both goalies are getting beat on that backhand without poke check ending the play.

But at end of the day neither Woll or Samsonov should be the no.1 next season. Ilya mental weakness is paired with Woll physical weakness and it also unproven if Woll is even no.1 caliber over full season

I think almost any NHL goalie would have tried the poke check in OT.

Reilly needs to move on. You can't be a 7.5 #1 d and need a partner to bail you out each time. He is not a #1 D. he was standing still in the D zone watching Pasternak retrieve the puck. No awareness of where the puck was going.

Guys to move on from

1. Shananhan - he is the mastermind of this debacle.
2. Keefe. gets outcoached is games that matter
3. Marner - can't make what he wants. No show when the games get hard
4. Reilly - not a #1 but is paid like it.
5. Samanov - Terrible clutch goalie
6. Jarnkrok is a waste of a roster spot.

Let JT walk away after his deal or offer him 3 x 4..5 or say see ya.

I don't know what game you were watching but Woll didn't have many difficult saves in Game 5 or 6. Samsonov actually didn't have any really difficult saves in Game 7 either. He let in a muffin and then he forgot he's allowed to poke check and let Pastrnak go cross the blue paint and beat him to the post.

I think there's a pretty significant mental block for this team. It's almost a "don't lose" mindset rather than most win.

But there's no question games 5&6 this year and any other elimination game are way more important with more pressure than games 1&3

Actually all they had to do was not offer Samsonov and get a real goalie. They win this series.

We win this game with Woll, and it solidifies that our biggest need is a legit goalie.

I think they had the right mix to win. Some of the pieces need to change, but the backend made it miserable for Bos. Domi and Bert provided secondary scoring. Too bad only Nylander could scorevin the last two games

The backend allowed us to play like we did. Dumping pucks, lots of icings, blocked shots and winning board battles. It also kept us in our end a fair bit as a result and limited our transition game.

I'm not sure we were built to succeed, but it may have won us a round

We need a retool this offseason, get rid of Marner for a D that can take a slapshot. Get rid of Keefe, Shanahan and Reilly.

Game 5 was arguably our best (maybe 2), and the B's dominated the third of a tie game and into OT

Overall close games where Boston carried the play and had more chances. Last night was similar, albeit even more slanted to the B's

Feel sorry for the guys who sacrificed their bodies for 7 games for peanuts. Benoit with 37 hits in te series, Nylander with 32 for the season.

Will be refreshing not having to read toxic posts from Paul Marner.

If this season had a bright spot it was the emergence of Benoit, the bonus was getting him signed. The D is a joke, but the third pairing of Benoit and McCabe will be solid next season……..

Swayman is stopping breakaway after breakaway in Games 5, 6 and 7 and we're not allowed to be hard on Samsonov for allowing weak goals because he only allowed 1 or 2 weak goals a game.

Swayman stopped 3 breakaways this game. Boston got 1 and scored. I don't even necessarily blame Samsonov on the breakaway (although both Woll and Swayman go for the poke check there) but... like... what about THIS?

It hit his freaking hand and went into the net, right after we scored. This wasn't even average goaltending.

It was really Marner’s only play he generated and he otherwise folded again in a big game.

Your take on the game? It's a shame Marner's pass didn't influence this game at all... Really? You don't see how pointing out one decent play is somewhat dis-honest? Especially when he failed to do the one thing his PR team never forgot to mention - play Selke-level defence.

It's a joke, not even Keefe thinks Marner can stop anyone in playoffs trusting him with close to no D-zone starts...

Watching Edmundson, Boosh, McCabe defend and Woll play goal like an elite goalie tells you those cap dollars need to be allocated to those key positions. Those player types are sorely needed but they also need to be higher quality and x-factors that can win. So much money on forwards that don't score. Things need to change.

Agreed, Leafs need to get a whole lot workman like, the fancy regular season gone scorer’s are a waste of cap space, get rid of the lot of them (if you can) and get more players with heart………

But the only reason Woll had to be even better than average was because we had to win 3 in a row. Samsonov was below average with his constant weak goals.

We start this series from Game 1 with Woll in net and I don't think this series goes 7. Boston's PP was an automatic goal with Samsonov in net, but they didn't score once on Woll.
