Correct, and it was people like me that were arguing with the Burke fanboys here about the need to draft-rebuild the team...you know...being in the bottom of the league to secure the lottery picks to get the top draft talent...because that's easily the most efficient way to acquire talent in the salary cap era....obviously?

Well they did that finally and then botched it completely by paying them all top-10 salaries all together and then deciding they wanted to play a non-contact style in the playoffs.

Not a conspiracy guy at all but at this point I'm almost thinking that Bettman planted Shanahan here to sabotage the whole thing.

It was going so well until all of a sudden we hired a stick boy as our GM.
True and they completely screwed it up by signing Tavares when they already had Kadri as a 2C for a lot less. They needed a 1D and decided that was Rielly when they should have traded him after his 20 goal season. Treliving’s got his work cut out for him but I know he values physicality and toughness so at least they won get run out of series anymore.

the Dubas supporters want Shanny fired because he kicked there boy to the curb like a piece of garbage
It is interesting, that for those who view Treliving as somewhat of a success, Shanahan isn't. Understandable. There's one unmet goal and common denominators that have to be culled through in order to find the keyspring blocking our path.

I only know of one certainty at the moment: This has to be Keefe's last game.

It may not be Tavares' or Marner's...but it can be Keefe's.

This last week was the first time this team looked like it could win in the playoffs. I imagine there will be big changes but we may actually be on the right track.
I agree. Keefe mentioned the same in his post-game interview. He said the team finally bought in to playing a different and more patient style of play. Which raises the question, has and is the team tuning out their coaches?

If they were, why didn’t he take a harder line and staple a few players butts to the bench and make them buy in?

They really pushed us to our limits, extracting every last ounce of pain possible.

I am so happy the leafs lost. I say this every year. Until You get rid of the corporate media owners of MLSE, nothing will change. Rogers and Bell own 75% collectively and use their media proxies of TSN and Sportsnet to always hyper pump their garbage investment. Until owners change, this culture wont change.

speak up leafs fans. speak up

If you think the fans can somehow force either of them to sell their stake in the team, you're f***ing delusional.

The idea was right but the execution wasn’t great. Zadorov over Edmundson probably gives us an extra goal or two and more physicality which is enough to tilt a close game. That one glorious set up that Nylander fed Edmundson that he flubbed on comes to mind. Lub being our best offensive D is a problem. They don’t need to be Makar out there but they need to get quality shots on net when presented with the opportunity, or at least shots that will cripple whoever gets in front of

Those type of dman are tougher to find. Dubas thought Rielly and Sandin and Liljegren were but they weren’t.

I hated what was going on with this team in the final week of the season. Those cookie chasing games were ridiculous (Toronto down by 3 goals, but Matthews has 12 shots on net, etc.) I hope the next coach/GM learns from this.

Also wtf was Rielly doing on that OT goal? Standing around waiting for pasta to get the puck for him. What a clueless f***ing dumbass
Nah, that was Marner's assignment.

It was a set play, so I get that there was an element of surprise.

But Reilly, given who was in front of him, with a reasonable expectation of coverage, wouldn't have expected Pastrnak to be that deep, that soon.

That was Marner's gaffe. Reilly's reaction, like Samsonov's was imperfect, largely because of genuine surprise. Bruins caught us.

Lindholm was the Bruins x-factor this game (every bit as much as Swayman).

I agree Keefe has to go but if it isn't JT's last game we'll be spinning our wheels regardless of who the coach is .

We're stuck with Tavares for one more year. It's not that surprising that we'll have to hold our nose for the last year of his contract, just disappointing that we didn't make any runs before he jumped the shark completely.

Might be just symbolic, but dude should strip the C off his own jersey though.

In no other arena in the NHL would that puck fly out of that corner like that.

Both Marner and Rielly SUCKED ASS on that play

Marner let his guy go in Marner was floating

Rielly couldn't skate to intercept Pasta

they came out flat in the OT too.

Even if I agreed with you (which I don't) only 1 goal scored. This is a freakin JOKE. If Leafs want to play low scoring games then they ahve no need for Marner and Tavares they can get grinders who play defense first as forwards and put money towards #1D and #1G

It took five years for them to buy in ? Great coaching.

Marner needs to get in Pasta's way to slow him down. Simple as that.

It should be an intersting off season. There’s no way they bring back the core 4 again. Actually I shouldn’t say that I can see a scenario where they bring a new coach and keep the core.

It's not that they lost to Boston in overtime in Game 7.

It's that they were badly beaten at home in Games 3 and 4.

And that they have only advanced past the first round once, and then were badly beaten in the second round.

This screams coaching change, and a whole lot more.

Something has to give.

He was going for a leisurely skate to retrieve a puck to flip up ice. Then he saw 88 flying down his right side. But then, didnt really care too much and just gave his best effort to reach at him.
