Highest velocity wrist shot

Better than Sakic, Bossy, Wendel, the Hulls? Wendel Clark used to knock goalies over with his wrist shot, which he developed to a very high degree because he was banned from using his slapshot as a youth because he kept hurting people.
I agree with the above poster who said that having a great wrister, and a hard wrister are not necessarily the same thing
Sakic was scary cause he could get off a wrister in stride head up and blam.

Imagine Wendell Clark or Joe Sakic with one of today's sticks...
Imagine Lemieux….

The impact of stick technology seems to get missed on here. The power is mostly driven by the flex on the sticks, so hearing certain players have the ‘best’ shot of all time is laughable. The flex also hides poor technique. So what Lemieux could do with his wrist shot was technically much harder to achieve with a wooden stick.

No love for Filip Forsberg?

I'm not sure if it's the hardest wrister or not. But he's got an absolutely lethal wrist shot that he pretty regularly seems to be able to score with, from range. And a true, classic wrister at that. Not just a sort of ambiguous quasi-snapshot like some guys mentioned here.

He's certainly one of the first guys that comes to mind for wrist shots in the league today.

Love this thread.

Love stationary shots that can beat a goalie clean:

Aesthetic AF

Loved how Laine teleported this puck into the net:

A bit unexpected from McDavid.

There are probably tons of players in other leagues with higher velocities than NHLers. The difference being the typical NHLer likely knows how to better use his shot in game situations.

I seem to recall a Laine wrister clocked well over 90mph but I don't remember if it was in game or some shot competition somewhere? I tried googling it but couldn't find anything, my memory says it was closer to 100mph than 90 but I could be wrong. In any case gotta be one of the hardest in the league, he has the body mechanics, high flex + skill for it.

Could accuracy go down a bit with modern sticks? That was one of the best attributes of Lemieux's shot. I also think he used a snap shot more often.

Who do you think has the fastest wrist shot in the NHL? I've heard people mention guys like Pettersson, Laine and Tarasenko. Bedard's looks lethal. Not talking about accuracy or quickness of release, just who gets the puck moving the fastest.

Edited for a little more clarity.
Hard to judge for me because so much of it is from the whip provided by the stick. That’s not to say there aren’t some impressive shots out there.

I think Semin's wrister could compete with anyones ever. But obviously as players as a whole he certainly lacks in comparison to those guys.

I highly doubt it. I’ve used both and my accuracy is better if anything with new sticks, don’t see why it would be worse for all-time great NHL players

Un-scientifically, IMO the current generation is a bit lazier about just whipping the puck at the net inaccurately. It’s so easy to elevate the puck that there’s a lot less need to try and tuck the puck inside the goalie’s elbow or through the five-hole, and the game moves so fast that they rarely get a decent 1-on-1 look at the goalie. Put those factors together and you get a lot of guys just slinging pucks off the glass.
