Where's Appleton? That's the big change on defense? Sit Samberg? For Capobianco? Morrissey-De Melo have been getting owned during this losing streak.

My guess is rotating Capo in to keep him loose and less rusty for the POs.

Apples no idea.

Probably trying to get some offense from the D - Capo might bring some of that - worth a shot under the circumstances.
JoMo and Demelo should be fine - but they'll need to make sure Demelo understands his role - back up JoMo when he's activating the offense

Message from Josh Morrissey to the Jets HF
“We’re confident in our locker room. We need to stay positive and not let all the outside noise and question marks and everything else affect us.”

Jets are 22nd in league on XG differential yet still 13 in points per game

San Jose is 20th in XG diiferential and 30th in points per game

Goes to show you how much Helly has carried the team this year

The team is in a massive slump. While I'm not happy with the play 3 of the last 4 games I also don't expect the team to continue to shot 4% at 5 on 5 like they have the last 10 games. We have the talent to turn this around but they need to get off to better starts, stop sulking and just work.

If we can get some goals and some wins then I think the confidence comes back and the results will follow. Teams have slumps and we are having ours right now. We have 1/4 of the year left to get things back on track.

They've been playing like shit for more than 20 games now. They have picked up some wins in that time, like the one where Helle made 50 saves and a couple where the other goalie couldn't stop a beach ball, but the level of play has been consistently really bad. WTF happened?

Chevy picked up Niederreiter sending the players that magic message they expected and this was their response???

Will they though? They are largely healthy, and are still playing like ass. No one is generating any offense. The PP is anemic. Shit, the only good part of the game is the PK and Helle. If this is the last gasp of what this core can do, then trade them this off-season. You've already dealt with the coach. He's the "new voice". You need to change your horses.

Obviously hindsight - but looking at it now, it is clear that they should have cleaned house last off-season. Gotten into the Bedard/Fantilli/Carlsson/Benson/Smith sweepstakes and accumulated '23 picks.

There is something wrong with this crew that is resisting being fixed.

I completely disagree, they just look like they are because they have had the third worst conversion % of any team the last 25 games.

Over that time they are top 5 in CF% and top 1/3 in XGF%. They are also league average in save percentage over that period. So yes the end results have been worse then the actual performance for 25 games now. So they have largely outplayed their opponents but have had no finish, I'd expect to see some regression in terms of scoring down the stretch.

Their past 10 games shows exactly the same in the underlying metrics and we are shooting even worse in that period so yeah our results aren't good.

If this team shot a league average 9% over that time at 5 on 5 we wouldn't be having these conversations. Not saying they don't need to improve their play because they do but if they start scoring again then things will correct themselves imo.

It's pretty much the same team as LY - playing the same way as LY (other than games under the Bonus boost early one).
They are playing pretty much the same as LY -
I think at least we might concede, that the team's fortunes LY, were not necessarily based on the coaching.
I don't expect many to actually concede that - but objectively, it's hard to ignore.

Unless ...........
New coach, same as the old coach, which TBH is what it looks like in a lot of ways.

But maybe we should forgive coach Lowry for his inability to get it done. It is now 3 old school coaches. Would a younger, less experienced, less 'old school' coach be likely to do any better?

We will go on a winning streak of 8- 10 games, and you will then be a happy camper. The Jets were all over these guys in the last 2 periods. Their confidence will come around, and they will bounce back. We have the scorers to do this.

I thought the effort was pretty good tonight, and it's a matter of getting their confidence back.

All over them in the last 2 periods? Scored zero. Shots? Score effect. Isles were sitting on a big lead.

stretches like these are why depth scoring is a must in the nhl

Coach looked pretty good earlier on - most if not all, were behind him 100% after a good start.
What has changed? The coaches message or the players response?
Is this a coaching issue?

Holy crap what an exaggeration of next level proportions. Around 20 games ago was the beginning of January where we started the year 7-1. That’s playing like shit to you? :biglaugh:

the reason we picked up nino because we desperately needed some help, he was unable to play yesterday so I don't get why anyone expect to magically fix their scoring he needs to actually play in order for that to happen, same with the people who want to just give up and sell on this team, before the season started we all talked about needed more depth in the bottom of the line up and to start the season it actually was pretty decent and we were looking like a real contender, since then it has started to fade to the point that it has become non-existent. we have done nothing so far to address this issue so of course it didn't go away, teams go in scoring slumps all the time but most teams get secondary scoring that can help them find their way out of it, we don't putting the pressure on our top6 to not only score at a much higher rate then they can, get some depth scoring and take some of the pressure off the top6 to score 3+ goals every night and we will return to the same team that played at the start of the year. outside of the avs/rangers game I still think we played well enough to win defensively.

My 2 cents:

If they play like turd one more time this season, make them all healthy scratches and call up the entire Moose roster for a game. Tell the media why. Because if that doesn't wake them up, nothing will.

Hopefully Bowness has a voice left to yell at the refs tomorrow night!

I don't know. Really, I have no clue.

I know that they have been badly failing my eye test for 20+ games now. Bottled up in our DZ way too long, way too often. A lot of low% shots. Well, relatively a lot of those. A lot of games there just haven't been many total shots. Few good scoring chances. Bad passing/turnovers. Really horrible starts way too often. How can they not be ready for puck drop? They look like they are surprised to find the game has started.

Based on lineup moves, it appears that Bones blames it all on Ehlers, which appears to be just nuts. It does coincide pretty closely with the return of Ehlers, Wheeler and Perfetti from IR. I find it hard to believe that that is the actual cause but the human brain is wired to associate correlation with causation.
