I've been doing good running on a treadmill lately. Decided to go for a run outside since it was so nice today. Ended up stepping in a hole in a broken sidewalk, sprained my ankle and got 5 stitches and 6 staples in my knee. Walked about half a mile home with my (of course white) shorts covered and my right hand and knee dripping blood, I probably looked like a psychopath just strolling the suburbs
Working out is dangerous man... Remember last year when I slipped in the mud and smashed my knee on the metal meter? Still have a gigantic calcium or whatever bump on my patella.

What kind of hole was it? Did it break under your weight or was it there and you missed it? Could have been way worse... ie snap your leg or knee / etc etc... so you are in a way, fortunate.

I had to crawl about half a mile home as well after my knee... covered in mud after rolling in it screaming in pain.

Trailer for Dune Part 2 looks fairly impressive.
Not watching the first until the second is available.
Been waiting a few years now for both to be ready.

I will say I prefer plumbing and a bed these days too. Really I just want isolation and a fire. We went "camping" in Gatlinburg last month and our cabin had a hot tub and let me tell you, it was better than not having a hot tub
I guess I will mention it now because it's already booked for eternity and then some (good luck finding one this half of the century)... you can camp/rent fire watch cabin's now and there are so few of them they are mostly booked.

Any rich old cash chucker out there looking for an entrepreneur with a pretty instantaneous return on investment? Because I have a hella good idea....

One of my favorites.
Just the idea... assimilation in remote area... brilliant.
Question for you, so we watched the '82 version. Which is next best, the original or 82?
Is there similar film that you would recommend? It's so difficult to find good films for movie nights.

add: Oh, i read carpenter is interested in a sequel or something to his '82 film.
Never usually a good idea, but... I wish there were a sequel from the 80's and it was good!

Check out They Live, also by John Carpenter. Not similar to The Thing but it's another movie I appreciate.

It was like a pot hole in the sidewalk, so it was already there. And yeah my initial thought was that I had to have broken my ankle. It didn't hurt that bad after the initial fall though and X-rays looked okay. It's still swollen and sore though. It was the most bruised I've ever had from a sprain, from the bottom of my foot up a few inches over my ankle, plus some on top and bottom of the foot and some toes.

Just watched THE THING last night for the first time.... how did I not see that or the original before???

Great stuff! haha

Same. THought shattered my patella or worse, if there is a worse.
Swoll-up for a good several days to a week. (I posted the episode in last summers OT).
Never x-rayed... still a big -guessing- calcium bump.

Everything is decent now. Used to have pains if it was in a relaxing position of sorts for a few good months after. Worst part is I could have just walked around the mud. Seen it a dozen steps beforehand.

Good thing you got it checked out and it checks out. Summer is when I intensify my workouts (running + lifting.... but its more like couch lifting, but it does the job) and out of the 5-6 months of heavy activity I probably am injured for a good month or so of it.
Shin splints, sprains, pulls, aches, combined aches... they add up after so long. Lifting gets me most injured and I am super cautious. Shrugs got me my most recent lower back pain which kills any activity for depending how severe...

How long did they say stay off or relax it and all that? Ankle is dangerous because it's vital for most all standing movement. Then again, any injury to just about anywhere can have an impact on movement... it's all so delicate, the body that is =]

Glad you are ok!

Speaking of Carpenter, one of my all time favorites is "Big Trouble in Little China". Just a balls out good time.
May watch that tonight!
We don't watch anything current unless it has some super draw to it or something or other.
Still not sure what to watch, genre or era...
Options... options....

Watched INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS 1978 version... figured we watched the remake of the thing, why not watch the remake of IOTBS and next weekend, saturday we'll watch the original the thing from another world and sunday we'll watch original Invasion otbs....

Invasion was a good similar story to the thing, but in city population... I can't stand leonard nimoy thankful he isn't in it much... a young jeff goldblum...
good film, better ending than the thing... but just wasn't as 'cool' as the thing overall....

Just watch Big Trouble In Little China, Tango & Cash, then Escape from New York.
AND..........!?!?///

How was BTILC ?? Wanna watch that.
---------------------------------------

Hmmmm.... 92 today.... 92 ish for that matter. Hmmmm... to run or not to run.... I have a haircut and driving so short a distance would almost be worse.... hmmm surely walking will be painful enough, but running will mean certain death. hmmmm hmm hmmmm.
Got it. Will run until running exerts sun / heat stroke concerns. Then walk, stroll... check out babes... heat makes less clothes more appropriate.... aaaaaoooowwwww!!! 🐺

How the f*** have you not seen Big Trouble In Little China mate?

Big Trouble in Little China is one of the best 80's movies in existence.
The only acceptable sequel is if ole Jack Burton is game for more shenanigans or his son plays his son in the sequel.

Mate you need to watch this movie asap, as ole Jack Burton would say, May the wings of liberty never lose a feather.

Same. How can anyone ever actually see every movie they "should" have seen, there's just too many!?
This is something a wanker that wears cargo shorts and crocs would say.

Some of us are out living life instead of watching movies. Probably because our feet are comfy and we can carry all of our stuff in our cargo pockets.

Don't make excuses. I live life just fine whilst enjoying the classics during down times. Getting together with your mates and watching a movie like that back in the day and then repeating the jokes, a lot more fun than finding that lost skittle in the 49th pocket from January, wanker.

for real though, I actually did recently get crocs basically to use as indoor/outdoor slippers at home and they're pretty damn solid. At the suggestion of my wife btw, she went there first.

I do want to watch all of those movies, not sure why I haven't gotten to them. I actually miss video rental places when it comes to watching older movies like these. None of these are free streaming anywhere that I see. I hate the idea of paying to watch something on a service I already pay for

True. Come to think about it... how many movies would you have to watch a day to watch even just say 1,000 of the really good films? Then figure in life, I'd much rather sit outside watching the birds and squirrels and hawks and ants and butterflys etc etc then sit watching a film. We save movie night for saturday / sunday or both if we have good films lined up (this weekend original invasion of the body snatchers and the thing)... but then you have to figure in crappy movies you watch on a whim they may be good or decent -- that ruins your ratio of cracking out the good films.

I tell you, I watched TCM like a machine for years and I mean machine... still haven't cracked even half of the 'golden age' of hollywood films... still see 'new ones' all the time that I never even heard of.

It's just impossible to see all the good films!!
OR IS IT?! haha... I mean... someone would have had to seen 'every' movie out there.... could it be true?

-------------
add:
I've run 3 days out of 3 days this week.... and I'm plotting to run 7 out of 7 days (2 miles per day) the heat has me today and the fam is going to the ballpark this afternoon.... don't want to run and be all miserable / sore... I think I'll go for the run :wg:
