Ive noticed changes as ownership has changed a few times. As well as although the rules have only slightly changed over that time period some feel more emboldened to thumb their noses at them although they agreed to the terms upon joining.
Honestly, posters were much more civil in debate years ago and less so now.

I've noticed the same thing but its not limited to HF, be it facebook, X, reddit etc the art of civil debate is on its way out.
You guys are going to have fun when the current teen generation finds their way here. From what I have seen they are savages, full on rebelling against PC culture. Even as a so called edgelord I'm like whoa someone is about to get canceled.

The only bad thing and this may just be my opinion is this f***ing sportsbook ad which is all over the front page and every thread even if you're a sponsor. We know the sportsbook is back. We don't need a f***ing banner every thread about it.

Had to f***ing filter it out in Ublock Origin.

One of my guilty pleasure is to spy on the Leafs board after yet another heart breaking loss.

The next best thing for me after the Habs winning is the Leafs losing. And you have to be on HFBoards to truly hear the sound of the Leafs fanbase's hopes getting crushed in a spectacular fashion yet again.

Most web forums were killed by centralized social media like Reddit and Twitter.

I find that places like Reddit cast a wider net. While there are knowledgable people, the because one Reddit account gives people access to message boards on every hobby, there is a lower barrier to entry. You don't have to be very invested or even care much about a hobby to participate in a subreddit. So you end up getting less interesting or knowledgable discussion.

I don't think there is anything wrong with someone who is a beginner and knows very little seeking out a hobby, but the dynamic is different when it is a beginner who is very interested in a topic and open to learning, growing, and having a stake in the online community vs someone who knows very little about the topic, isn't interested to learn, but will engage online because Reddit makes it accessible.

I also think to an extent that Youtube has also killed message boards. If I want to learn about a hobby, or engage in a hobby in some way, I can find videos and tutorials on Youtube. Back in the day, you had to find message boards with tutorials or helpful members. So they were a point of entry to hobbies.

I dont mind the hockey reddit for the most part but holy crap there's a ton of young folks on there. I'll see things like "what was the reaction to the Griffin Reinhart trade in 2015, I was only 11 at the time" or "was it a big deal when Ovechkin scored 65 goals? I was 8 when it happened"

I dont know if it's because of the crowd on there, but it seems like there s way less chirps on there than here. Here you'll have people criticizing other teams all the time but on there it's almost like everyone just wants to hold hands and sing along.

I had some Sharks fan try and rip my head off for suggesting that Marleau isn't really a HHOF'er, their entire argument was based on the GP record. But they acted like I said something insulting about their mother.

HFBoards is more lenient than reddit and r/hockey where you can catch lifetime bans without warnings

That said We do not even allow trolls here, on reddit there's so much circlejerk and crap that should be deleted but isn't

Yea I find nobody wants to take shits at anyone else's team on there, it's weird.

People shit on the Caps constantly but there's no moderation or any oversight

Wilson does something, everyone bitches and moans

The mods are better here at sniffing that stuff out and locking threads if they get out of hand. Reddit also has like 600 posts every day on /r/hockey about highlights. More organized here

Also last thing on /r/hockey I feel most of the people there are either new to hockey or are teenagers. The way they write makes my head hurt. "gyatt these sigmas on the rangers" like what? speak english lol. HFBoards skews towards the older side which is better for more intellectual discussion believe it or not

Got to admit there are clubs I definitely enjoy watching lose.

This forum is both of NHL hockey and more hockey and more sports topics and some other topics totally fantastic discussion forum.

We all hockey fans want the Red Wings to play a good season now.

The season is running now.

That is simply due to reddits design. If you are not going with the threads narrative, you are downvoted to oblivion. So the only posts are just a massive echo chamber saying the same things while if someone has a differing opinion you have to go looking for the comment in the downvotes. This ofc then makes it so people dont even bother posting opposing view points in threads because they will just get straight up hate voted down no matter what.

People love to try and farm karma too so they'll just say what they think people want to hear to farm easy up votes.

I used to do the triple GDT follow. Leafs board, opponents board and mains. Problem was I would get the GDT's mixed up.
Me neither, for me HF is the only place, i can't do X it's too cringy.
I love X, its like the PvP server of social media

Reddit is not a fun place for hockey. Circlejerks are just uninteresting and sensing where the wind is blowing. People don't like to be downvoted because we are primitive social beings so we´d rather just stop posting.

Here I can my post my own stupid take and it's just as visible as anyone else´s. Even when I get chewed out I can occasionally get a like or post of support from people who share my particular brand of stupidity.

Forums have been dying for a long time. A lot of the ones I grew up on are long gone.

I'm grateful that this place is still going as strong as ever. Hockey wouldn't be the same without it for me lolol.
I miss AOL chatrooms the most...well and the original Bruins message board that was on the official team website. Lived on that 20 years ago. The wild west internet was fun
