  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Hey bud on page 2 this afternoon i made a post to Summer Rose......Hope you can check it out if you get the chance.............A bit of a follow up about your post a week or two ago on referee's getting no respect..............
On refs in kids games, I grew up playing on the Ferris State ice, so a great place to play youth hockey. Kalamazoo ice sucks. I believe I was in Squirts, watching a game my older brother was in, probably Bantams, and a dad from the opposing team reached over the glass and punched a ref, who was probably a college kid. He froze for a second, then all of the other grown up men pinned him until the police showed up.

I will never understand someone who physically assaults a sports official, but I’d be lying if I said I’m surprised it occasionally happens. It’s always the adults who are the crazy ones too, with the higher concentration of crazy coaches and parents in my personal experience being at squirt and peewee level. Adult players are also crazy, and the lower down you go in rec hockey level the crazier they tend to be.

The kids themselves, who are actually the ones playing the game, don’t really give a shit. I had a kid (was either a squirt or a peewee, forget which) flip me off after I called a penalty on him once, and that’s the worst thing a kid actually playing the game ever did to me.

Yeah that's a crazy story but to be honest i'm not surprised................I played until Bantam and my brother was a fantastic minor hockey league player (he's 15 years older then me)................I basically grew up in arena's and it's always been prone to being a heated environment.......Never ending stories and lots of tension in the air ....Lol

Speaking of Michigan , it's not far from here.....Crossed the border in the Sault once and drove to the Mackinaw Bridge........was really nice........

Saw all kinds of incidents with the parents over the years.........Saw coaches throwing hot coffee in the dressing rooms and whipping pucks (by hand) on the ice because they disagreed with the official............On and on it goes........

...I threw my stick "towards" a ref once, when I was like 12 (wooden goalie stick); didn't come close to hitting him, but it was enough for a 3 game suspension......not my proudest moment...:baghead:

Well, now that I’m remembering things, I just recalled that one of my high school teammates started punching the linesman while being escorted to the penalty box. The kid was an alternate captain too… and not on the team the following season.

Yeah, parts of Michigan are great. I was born in Detroit and my mom went to Ferris, which I guess is why I'm here not caring for my palms 24/7.

Most of us don't get that a lot of the officials at that level are doing a job for nothing or next to it

I beat up a 10 year old at the Michigan State arena. Not my proudest moment, but I was 9 and he slashed me after running my goalie. Best part was that was the only game my Grandma showed up to watch me play
