2025 26 Roster…too Soon

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Vegas doesn’t seem to care, and it’s worked out great for them. And Buffalo was very risk adverse and look where it got them.
There is a whole lot of confirmation bias in with those particular teams.

IMO in the long run trading early 1st round DP's doesn't end well. I certainly wouldn't do it for a winger that you're hoping for 2-3 more elite seasons from, and the final 2-3 years on the contract will likely be ugly.

You might have missed the word "could" in the post you quoted. It's a synonym for "may" and clearly indicates that I'm saying it's not a certainty.

But I would, without hesitation, keep the pick that *could* become McKenna over making the deal that is the topic of this debate.
And I rather the Hawks focus on being competitive next year.

betting the farm on a 30 year old winger to make the worst team in the league competitive overnight does not come off to me as particularly wise. the bruins with pasta almost certainly aren't even a playoff team this season, and i don't think the hawks are appreciably better than the bruins sans pasta.

going after a big fish FA is how we ended up with the SJ contract on a basement team

A guy I think we should be targeting is Alexis Lafreniere off the Rangers. 7 years at $7.4m AAV.

36 of his 40 points are at ES and he's playing on a dysfunctional Rangers team that hasn't ever known what to do with him. We should throw a Kaiser/Allan + TOR/FLA 1st rounder at him and get ourselves a former first overall pick to be a permanent addition to our top 9. I wanted him in 2023 and then the next year he put up 28 goals and 57 points.

Offersheets are probably ineffective these next few seasons with the rising cap, not that they're ever really effective to be honest. We don't have to give a guy like Boeser $9+ million AAV in free agency.

I think it's potentially a really savvy move considering the potential he still has and the cost would be relatively low.

I'm really thinking they should go after Ehlers. He's almost a PPG player who only gets 16 min of ice time. He also plays in WPG so not many people are familiar with him. If we could get a 28 year old PPG winger for 7 X 9 or something, I'd be fine with that.

This may or may not happen but if we could bag Ehlers, sign an older center like Tavares or Duchene to a shorter higher AAV deal, draft Misa, and come into next season with each of our young guys with another year of pro experience, we just might be competitive.

And all of those things happening isn't all that unlikely but look at this:

Ehlers - Bedard - Nazar
Misa - Tavares - Bertuzzi
Dickinson - Mikheyev - Teravainen
Dach - Veleno - Slaggert
Reichel

Vlasic - Levshunov
Del Mastro - Murphy
Korchinski - Kaiser
Crevier

Knight
Soderblom

That just might take us out of the McKenna sweepstakes

Love this line up but where's the captain?

I would guess we cant get Tavares or Duchene to come sign with a bottom feeder. Maybe Granlund? The center market is BRUTAL.

We really need Misa.

That might be an awkward story for next year. He's signed and he'll still be the captain but he doesn't offer much on the ice anymore. He'll probably have a 4th line role next season and I could see him being traded at some point during the year next year. I see a parallel to Martin Lapointe being around for Kane and Toews' rookie year.

I'd rather he retire and go to the bench as an asst coach

haha no he wouldnt and wont..just what I want to happen. I am hopeful KD can target a player like LaFreniere or maybe Beniers who are a bit older but havent quite set league on fire as trade acquisition in Summer.
I really want Lundell if Florida resigns Bennett. Would spend big for him.

I would see if Bertuzzi would want to unite with Larkin in DET. I'd take on Justin Holl and Vladimir Tarasenko. I don't want to deal with Bertuzzi for 3 more years. Those two expire in a year and I would bury them in the minors / buy-out.

I would then give the Bertuzzi money to Donato. At the very worst, Donato is a good energy/checking forward. I think hes a solid 45+ point guy going forward. He's also doing a decent job at C with TT and Mikheyev.

I would trade Dickinson retained to Dallas for Marchment and Dumba and buyout Dumba.

I would trade Korchinski + Reichel + Murphy for Noah Dobson... rather not gamble on KK panning out, and Dobson is still young.

Draft Misa / Hagens or Frondell. Misa could step in a sheltered 3C role.

II would target these wingers in order of preference; Marner, Ehlers, Boeser, Granlund.

Marchment / Bedard / Marner~
Mikheyev / Donato / Teravianen
Dach / Misa~ / Nazar
Slaggert / Veleno / Foligno
Reichel

Vlasic - Dobson
EDM - Levshunov
Kaiser - Crevier/Rinzel
Allan
Brodie

Knight
Brossoit / Soderblom
