That stat is subjective like hits, etc.

I like that theory though, refs should call more penalties because we have McDavid and Draisaitl.

Could be, but I also wonder whether sports betting plays a role in fans being more invested (literally) in the outcome.

I think it's more people always seem to assume their team plays fine and notice the missed calls on their team more than what their team gets away with.

If you took two teams you don't have an invested interest in and then check their GDT you'll see both fans complaining the other team is getting the calls and meanwhile it seems rather even from the impartial fan.

It's why I say the league isn't against you these referees are just terrible.
