Yep. Very interesting. Super frustrating to watch.
It’s well known that players typically have a reputation that the refs are well aware of. If players want the benefit of the doubt, they should probably stop with the embellishment/diving. You’ll rarely get the 50/50 calls when you have a reputation.

The Oilers are, once again, 30th in the NHL this season for penalties drawn. Over the past 4 years they are 25th in the league at a net -33. They win a lot of games in spite of the refs.
your players are even softer than your fan base. Get to the tough areas, play physical, you'll draw more calls.

We should be good then because neither of our stars have a reputation of diving/embellishment. Quite the opposite, they take too much punishment, bet they would get way more calls if they did the head snapping and flopping like others.

Bad calls are simply a fact of sports. The best one can hope for is to get less than the other guy.
It is not random at least not completely. I have never seen a high stick drawing blood not called 4 minutes except when it's a high stick on a Hab. One of the few calls the Sharks ever got was the high stick on Pavelski.

100% they do, they also bitch and whine a lot....though McDavid seems to have tempered that a bit.....

Tell me, where do the Oilers rank on non calls against?

The Penguins radio broadcast just reported that Jarry has surrendered a goal on the first shot he faced for the 6th time this season.

The Penguins are challenging for goalie interference. The challenge was successful.

Still 0-0. The Penguins are now 4 out of 5 for goal challenges this season.

In Gary's NHL there's a lot of factors. What the score of the game is, how much time is left, what a team's PP% is, what team the refs have money on, etc.

Worse than usual lately though as we've seen refs just... change their mind on penalties twice in the last couple weeks.

"The rule clearly states the goaltender must be able to make a save, and as you can see he can't"

He was pushed into Jarry by the defender, horrible call.
