The Islanders lost 1-0 to Detroit at home in October despite outshooting Detroit 30-11. The old EA NHL trick being pulled on the Penguins through 2. Not fun as the losing party to witness.

But... haven't you been on the Oilers board here, or Reddit? Skinner would be a Vezina winner behind a better defense and Pickard would totally not be back in the AHL on almost any other team...

Honestly, like Mikko Koskinen, I think when Skinner leaves the Oilers he's done in the NHL. And it won't be after a long or successful career. Tristan Jarry has the same goalie coach as Skinner and he's finished in the NHL.

They played much better defense earlier this season and Skinner and Pickard still had poor numbers. Their GSAx is terrible. Defense sucks right now, yes, but goaltending has been the one constant sore for this team since game one (save for a small stretch of games where Stu mostly had airtight D).

Why the Oilers would be taking a significant gamble if they stick with their current goaltending tandem

True, but their goaltending has been dogshit since day one, save for Skinner having one hot streak behind a mostly airtight D. Both goalies have made themselves expendable.

...not making any excuse for Skinner...he's much of the issue, however that entire right side is getting caved in constantly...getting a reliable partner for Nurse will make a HUGE difference...

Oilers have been looking for a reliable partner for Nurse since he broke into the league. The problem is Nurse, not his D partner.
