Funny how when these things happen so many Canadian people show their true colors in what they think of the USA. Aside from the change of the anthem, which as someone who knows the Canadian anthem I found absurd and unneeded, I've never hated the country nor it's people.

Any time these issues come up, people will use their Reddit logic to denigrate the US and it's people.

Sorry, but as a hockey fan I'll never hate or boo the anthem nor hate or boo another county because of their leader or any other obtuse reasoning.

So that would rationalize booing an anthem of a country? As if that anthem and flag only represent the president? I'm not going to debate the morality of tariffs or opine about the proper trade deals between countries.

Being upset about things beyond your control is fine and totally normal. I was upset your leader was found to have worn makeup to look like his skin was darker. As someone with darker skin, I found that to be ignorant and didn't respect him. But I never thought about booing the anthem or the country because of their leader.

From my job and playing hockey for many years I know and respect too many Canadian people to ever disrespect their flag or anthem.

Anyways Trudeau has acquiesced and the tariffs are paused for 30 days while things are worked out. I hope it works out for both countries, that America is able to produce more of our own products and we are able to work well with our friends to the north.

The ability to stretch any of this as being related to hockey is almost nil, so feel free to send a message if you want to discuss any more. I'm always open for good conversations. But if not, take care and hope the best for you.

It's a hockey game between two franchises that exist at the whim of their billionaire owners, the fact we even have national anthems at those is extremely obnoxious. I don't feel patriotic or a strong connection to servicemen during these, considering those making the audience do it shake down taxpayers, threaten to f*** off to another location at every turn and have no trouble selling stakes to overseas investors.

Hard to fathom being so concerned about a minor change in lyrics to a foreign country’s anthem.

Always funny to hear people throw out the term “virtue signaling” as a pejorative, as if a substantial portion of human symbolic communication isn’t intended to project values we wish others would ascribe to us.
