I
In previous years the term "established" referred to things like a team name, frequent tag matches together or tag title reigns, hence why New Day, the Freebirds and Demolition are the examples and only 3 I've ever been able to think of.
Once you apply the known kayfabe rule, it greatly limits the level of interpretation. I allowed team Taz as there are only 3 of them to choose (in terms of active wrestlers). Otherwise the rule becomes something it wasn't intended to be, and that is pay picks in exchange for that number of wrestlers. It only applies to tag teams just to make things more interesting.
Lots to think about for next year and the rules will probably be figured out.
Should clarify that by established tag team and the Freebird rule is in reference to the kayfabe rule in wrestling for teams of 3. That is teams that have 3 members can swap in and out for tag matches. This means that Kofi, Big E and Xavier Woods are the tag team champions. Any combination of the 3 can defend the belts.Just my two cents........if a person is picking 3 wrestlers from a particular faction and they are being used as 3-man team in a match, I don't have a problem with it.
The key is you have to use the 3 guys as team (which is what I'm doing) anyways so I don't see it being a big advantage. It would be different if you could reel off 3 guys from a faction and use them each separately (for example if someone took Hogan/Hall/Nash as a 3-man team they can't use them individually). But you can't.
To be honest having it limited to "established" 3-man teams leaves a gray area and room for interpretation. What might be an established team in one GMs eyes may not be established in another's. If the rule was left as is for future years than I would recommend the 3-man teams eligible to be chosen as 3-man teams be listed off up front in the rules. If the list ends up just Freebirds, New Day and Demolition, so be it but I would contend there are other 3-man teams who should be eligible like the OC (Styles, Anderson, Gallows), heck I'd include the Bloodline in that as well. (all these guys are picked I checked lol). There's your interpretation problem, which isn't a big deal in Free Agency but could be a cluster&&^% it happened at the top of the draft (like my Hogan/Hall/Nash example above).
I'd be fine if I just took Bagwell and Norton (as they were an established tag team Vicious and Delicious) and left Konnan for the next day. I can still use the 3 together provided Konnan was still available when I picked tomorrow. But like HH said, the Team Taz pick already set the precedent (which is where I got the Bagwell/Norton/Konnan selection idea) so that shipped has sailed.
Another suggestion would be maybe allowing the factions in free agency but not during the draft rounds.
Anyways something to think about for next year.
