Two wrongs, don't make a right Mike...haha...There goes my Hitmen pick. :(

I'll go with Tino Kessler from Switzerland, hopefully today's exhibition wasn't a fluke.

Great job guys, that was really quick. I appreciate the effort and want to wish all of you (some less than others....haha) luck in the tournament. It's always a pleasure. I'll be creating the team pages over the next couple of days.

As for replacement picks, right now I think it's just

- McCann (Fischer)
- Trenin (Farkas)

(possibly Pastrnak):

"I'll accept replacement player picks for any cut, non-released or injured player (provide a link) until 12:01 am on the 26th."

I'm going to replace McCann with Danila Karaban from Belarus. Wouldn't be team Fischer without a massive underdog that beckons the word, "WHO?". :(

Guryanov was cut (https://twitter.com/croulmane/status/680342072583417857) so I'll take Juraj Siska from Slovakia to replace him. Kid can fly, always thought he had some skill and never got a fair shake. Hopefully he does okay.

I'll be away for a day, if you need to make a replacement, ensure you post the replacement before the tournament begins.

Man my top forwards aren't doing too good (+ Nylander being hurt is killing me). At least the challengers are still leading pretty nicely!

I need Kasperi Kapanen to get going!

However, it feels good to be in first at least for a bit!

Put in a big move, at least in striking range heading into the QF's. Happy to see I have everyone on the board, and a well-rounded group though missing that #1 guy.

Should be fun to see what happens, good luck everyone!

Edit 1/5 4:19pm - Updated stats. Temporary congrats to Episkey for taking it home, of course Craig will need to run his own tally and confirm things.

_______

I ran a quick script to pull statistics from the IIHF website, this is an unofficial update heading into the semi-finals. Episkey has a lead, but three other teams have a realistic chance to pass him.

Players who are still participating in the tournament are listed in bold.

Interesting things I noticed:
  • Episkey has the lead despite getting only one point from his first round pick (Virtanen.)
  • Finland's "big line" of Laine-Aho-Puljujarvi is split on three separate teams. Imagine if someone paired up.
  • Of the four teams in the hunt, all of them have five active players heading into the medal round.
  • Farkas, Canada4Gold, and Fischer only have three players remaining and a lot of ground to make up.
  • Zemgus technically has the most players remaining, with 7, but William Nylander isn't expected to play.

Well, it's coming down to the wire. I updated stats after the US/Sweden game, and I have a minuscule lead, but two teams behind me have four guys remaining.

Here's hoping for a low-scoring gold-medal game and Roope Hintz needs to score unassisted!

Been fun keeping up with this. Please remember that these are unofficial stats.

It looks like Episkey and the HF Challngers have won! I'll give it a day (just in case IIHF makes scoring changes) but I'd like to thank everyone for participating, it was very fun--if only Canada could have done a little more. :(

I also wanted to personally tip my hat to Hahn'er, it was his first HF pool, and he almost took it home. Great job man.

Challengers rule!

Thanks for running this though! :handclap:

Considering my top-2 players were either injured or awful I didn't stand a chance myself of winning haha.

Thank you everyone! Good job to the other challengers... glad we beat the staff :). Thanks again for running this Craig (and whoever else helped). It was really fun. Now let's hope I don't get screwed by a stat correction...

Congrats, Episkey!

and participation ribbons all around

This is always fun for draft strategy. I knew I liked the Finns, but surprised at how the young guys supplanted Rantanen and Kapanen for the most part, making me wish I took Puljujarvi, Laine or Matthews with two. Oh well, I liked the games of the guys I took chances on (Kaprizov and Lammikko) even if they didn't score, so that was fun. Guys I considered like Kalapudas and Bjorkqvist had pretty nice tournaments too.

What a game to cap it all off, one of the best I've seen.
