Prospect Info: HF Mock Draft 17th Overall

I voted Mantha but only because I've heard a lot of good things.

Oh yeah. He'd fit in well, and be up with the big team very quickly. If he brings some of that Val-d'Or never-say-die mentality with him, all the better.

I dearly want us to draft Poirier too, but I'm sure he could be had in the second round.

Anyone but Mantha

His knocks all seems to be similar to Saad when we took Peumpel over Saad and look how well Saad looks now.

I've never watched him play but the more I read and hear about him it makes a lot of sense considering offensive skill and size, his biggest knock is defensive play. Which we can fix in Bingo.

TBH I don't even this kids gonna fall to us.

I hear something about compete level and takes the easy way out defensively.

But TBH I from what I read this year should be a good year.

Hopefully he falls to the third then xD.

But IMO we should trade down if for sure we can't trade up.

I'm not a fan of guys who coast and only turn it on when they want too. He's also only a few days removed from being avalaible in last years draft so he's almost a year older then most of the prospects.

I'm all for going for a high potential player, I'm just not a fan of his work ethic out there. He plays the anti-Sens way of playing hockey. He doesn't seem like a Murray kind of player.

In terms of Mantha, I can understand the hesitation as he doesn't have a well rounded game and thinks primarily offence. But the upside is there. His skating is not much of an issue, really, although he definitely lurks waiting for his chances (yes, some would call it floating).

The reality though, is he play a lot like an 18 year old Dany Heatley. I don't think he has quite the puck skills as a young Heatley, but his skating is probably better and 50 goals in 67 games is serious production for a draft eligible (as good as anyone else in this class).

Would I take him at 17? Probably not in this draft with some of the talent that will be there, and partially because I also recognize the risk that if the skill is just short of where it needs to be at the next level, he has some serious bust potential. A lot of digging has to be done by your scouts.

But again, Redline is not a fan of but begrudgingly admits he might still score 30 at the NHL. But it will be a Michael Ryder like 30, where as if he isn't scoring for you, he isn't do anything for you.

As others have said, I would be personally pretty surprised if the Sens scouts were big on him. Not really the way the Sens are looking to build this team.

Why isn`t Frederick Gauthier on the list, most have him ranked around 20th?

Puempel was the guy Dorion wanted. They argued about him and Noesen at 20 and picked the safer pick but Dorion wanted him. At this point i'm not willing to say we made a mistake by picking him over Saad - too much faith in Dorion.

same

havent really seen anything on him to make an educated pick... but read a quick little blurb comparing him to Lucic...if he can be even half the player Lucic is...then scoop this guy up :handclap:

Lazar is nothing like Lucic. That's an incredibly misleading little blurb.

Lazar is more like a Mike Fisher then he is a Milan Lucic. Very different kind of players. Not sure where you read he is Lucic like.

From this list:
1. Ryan Pulock
2. Andre Burakowsky
3. Ian McCoshen

Pulock is a home-run pick at 17. His shot is elite and he's a very smart, cerebral player. He would make our powerplay a huge threat, the same way Subban is doing for Montreal with his big shot. Perfect fit for this team, and at 17 is a steal.

Burakowsky would be my 2nd choice. He's the total package offensively. Skilled, creative and fast, and unlike many Swedes, he's gritty and will fight through traffic to get pucks. Skilled player who could very well be a future top 6 forward.

McCoshen is under the radar but fully deserves to be in the conversation. Big shutdown defenseman with untapped offensive talent. If he's picked anywhere outside the top 25 he is a steal.

Petan could be a really interesting pick. If he was to grow like another 3 inches and put on a ton of weight, he could a very good offensive player. From what ive read, hes the best forward on a team with quality forwards.

Yeah sorry I didn't mean I didn't like peumpel. I liked him too, coming off a rookie of the year the year before he was drafted and natural scoring touch. I personally wouldn't count the kid out at all.

All I'm saying is they probably overlooked Saad because of similar knocks that I've read on Mantha and he turned out pretty good. At the time we really needed LWers Saad and Peumpel were the top Left wingers later that round.

It was between Pulock and Burakovsky for me.. Realistically Pulock would be better as he is a puck moving right handed defenseman that would compliment the team (I do doubt he is around when we actually pick). But, I think the team could use a potential game breaking player like Burakovsky. In this draft we should swing for the fences. Burakovsky has the higher upside, but also higher risk. Which is why I gave the edge to him.

Picked Lazar but your right about swinging for the fence, and Lazar is not that. Burakowski sounds interesting.
