Only 32 cities in the world with a team playing in the NHL. Maybe we snuck in in thanks to the boomer generation because the economy was good enough in Buffalo back in the day. We would never get this now if it were a new option.

Let's just enjoy the ride, everything will be fine. Even if they lose 15 in a row.

We get to watch an NHL game today with a team from Buffalo. I will always look forward to that. Just my opinion.
This is very true. That said, Buffalo is also a second market for Southern Ontario, where a lot of wealth exists. The Sabres should play six to 12 games a year in Hamilton when their $300 million reno is done.

Some players care more about where they live than others.

Some players care more about taxes than others.

Some players care more about getting paid than winning.

Some players care more about playing with their friends than others.

Buffalo has consistently been a market that has a negative rep from visiting players. But, plenty of players like living here once they are forced to. Craig Rivet is exhibit A for a player that was not happy to be traded here and has since decided to live here in retirement, even after a nasty ending to his tenure as a Sabres player.

Adams was right when he said that getting players to come to Buffalo is harder than many other markets with better weather and better tax situations.

Adams was also right when he pointed to the Bills and saying that winning games is how you overcome that disadvantage.

The Trouba trade is an example of that. He blocked a trade to Columbus and accepted a trade to Anaheim. He wasn't making that choice based on who is better on the ice right now.
Good post.

But winning is the main factor. Sabres had no problems attracting talent when they were leviathans of the NHL. That's in the 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's.

Today, Pegula and Adams whine and cry about players who don't want to be here. Winning cures everything.

I was alive when the Knox's pursued an NHL franchise for Buffalo. They failed at 1st. Finally succeeded in 1970. Trust me, Buffalo;s glory days were far behind it in 1970.

The Knox's had CREDIBILITY, INTEGRITY, CHARACTER and a passion for the game that Pegula couldn't match on his best day.

I demand Governor Hochul get our tax money back from this crook.

I don't want this trash owning our Bills.
He may have lucked into Beane and McD to some extent but he's actually a really good owner of the Bills. Getting him out of town would hurt the franchise that actually matters.

Just praying for the day when the Sabres organization folds or moves and we can get an expansion team. At some point, the bad karma and storm clouds hanging over an organization get to be too much for anyone to overcome. We're past the point of no return.

Pegula isn't worthy to clean their polo ponies pasture muffins.

He ripped off the state. He should be investigated.

Once the NHL leaves Buffalo, they aren't going back, especially not in the form of an expansion team. It's a small, poor, dying market. What billionaire would even buy the team to keep them here if Pegula were to sell tomorrow? They'd sooner place a new team in Southern Ontario.

Yea, there is no way Buffalo is getting another NHL team if the Sabres ever leave. The only metro smaller than the Sabres currently in the NHL is Winnipeg.

They really need to figure out the arena situation or things could get hairy.

I would think that market rights and the NHL's tough rules for moving a team without finding a replacement would make it difficult to do so without a new franchise in place. Entirely agree that Buffalo isn't a desirable market on the surface, but it may be easier than asking the Leafs to rescind some rights to Hamilton or anywhere in between Buffalo and Toronto.

Idk, at this point, I don't care. I'll just bask in the old days and worry about franchises that aren't zombies.
