President and GM! Ummmmm am I the only one that thinks they just changed the name and the role is still the same. So Holmgren is the President and Hextall is the GM. So pretty much Holmgren is still making the decisions. I don't get it. And who is the President of Hockey operations? Or is that the same as the President? Who the heck is the Kings President cuz I know Dean is our GM. Someone enlighten me.

Lombardi is also the president

Numerous fans in here have brought up Coburn. Would he fit in LA? Admittedly I don't know much about him, but he is young and is left handed which from a distance appears to fit LA's needs this off season. Figured I'd ask you dee because you obviously know him much more about him than me.

I Like Coburn, I always have. He's a Left D, part of that magiical 2003 First round draft (8th). He's a pretty good skater, plays about 22-23 min per game, average and is used in all game situations. Has a good IQ, He's a pretty tough customer, and has been thru several playoff runs, overtimes, game 7 overtimes and a large part of the 0-3 comeback vs the Bruins, he knows playoff pressure.
He was also 15th in the NHL this year in TOI vs top competition among D; and his PK time was #1 (this from the Toronto Star:)

As for the league’s penalty killing heavyweights, the guys who log the most ice time, things look like this.

In terms of total shorthanded time on ice, the list is:

1. D Braydon Coburn (Philadelphia) 248:29

2. D John Carlson (Washington) 248:18

3. D Karl Alzner (Washington) 222:16

4. D Andy Greene (New Jersey) 223:32

5. C Jay McClement (Toronto) 219:45

Greene is the best, on the ice for 16 goals against, or one every 14 minutes.

After him it’s Coburn (27, or one every 9.2 minutes); Alzner (26 or one every 8.8 minutes); Carlson (29 or one every 8.6 minutes); the McClement (33 or one every 6.7 minutes).

I think he'd be a good fit for the team as he's in the age of their core, and in the Kings group, which is a more skilled group than the Flyers , per man, he'd excel as he'd be one of the group, not like in Philly where due to the average/mediocre D they have (not including Kimmo, who is good) he is relied upon heavily. ANd he'd have a better partner as a King. That makes a big difference.

Since Hexy wants to go 'younger', and the Flyers have been shopping him (and he almost went to Edmonton draft day but Homer wanted too much ) and looking to get some $$ back, maybe Hexy and DL become trade partners.

I'd love him as King

During the conference, Holmgren said he looked forward to learning the business operations side of the club, and it seemed like Hexy had full control over the hockey operations side.

I'm interested to see how RH does in PHI, I think Blake taking his role in the org is a net negative for the Kings at this point.

It's funny that Lombardi learnt so much from the Flyers' organization and built a great culture, drafted well etc. Holmgren never did any of that, partly because of Snider. Everything has to happen now and they kept re-signing old guys to long term, high salary, NTC deals. What would they have done if the buyouts weren't allowed? They would still have Bryz and Briere. Hopefully Hexy puts an end to that nonsense for the sake of the organization and drafts well, then brings guys up slowly.

I won't say DL didn't learn anything with his time in Philly but I don't think he was there very long and DL often references NY Yankees and Detroit Red Wings as inspiration(among other pro sports teams). DL is a quintessential think-outside-the-box professional and I think if anything, his connection to Philly has been more of a way to vet certain players character before bringing them to LA.

Re: president holmgren

Isn't Luc the president of hockey ops in LA? I'm pretty sure Holmgren is being put out to pasture ( in the most white collar of ways).

Depends, Lowe is the President of hockey ops in Edmonton and from all accounts has his hands in most things. I can't see Holmgren going completely into the background

Dean Lombardi is President of Hockey OP's and in charge of ALL Hockey decisions.

It was a stipulation in Lombardi's contract he insisted on, so ownership would not mess with the rebuild.

Lombardi learned his lessons in San Jose.

Luc is in charge of ALL public relations/Media/advertise that deal with Kings.
