Hextall. An amazing job.

Carter Hutton just did and we passed. It's pretty rare though.
I really don't see him being different than Brian Elliot. A possible very marginal upgrade.

Elliot is very reliable and consistent. He's like the anti Checkmanek....he will fit the style of the team....but if the system breaks down...yikes.

At the end of the day, it's really hard to evaluate any of these guys when they have the worst PK in the league by a landslide. Hutton

I will admit to being a bit of a fatalist.
I tend to be negative.
I may look for the dark cloud while ignoring the silver lining.
I even find myself, at times, waiting for the "other shoe to drop" when everyone is barefoot and happy.

But this I believe to be true. No wing. No Center. No defenseman. And no goalie, can ever. Potentially. Possibly. Conceivably. Fix the problems with this team, so long as the coaching staff - every last one of them - is put on a pyre and burned as an offering to some pagan god. Maybe then we can return to a semblance of sanity, with talent free to create, strength demonstrated in the fore-check, and opposing players again trepidacious at the sght of our home barn.

I give this testament freely and of my own ...

It seems appropriate to point out, like Curu and others have before, that Elliott has been fine at ES. And if he don't fix the PK thru coaching, it might not matter who we have as a goalie.

Since the start of 2017 season until today, Elliott has the 11th best ES SV% at .926. Better than:

F.Andersen
Dubnyk
Varly
Rask
Fleury
Bishop
Quick
Lundqvist
etc...

And seeing how Mason was tied for 10th in ES SV from 2013-2017, it really does suggest that it's the PK and HOW we play it, that is the issue.

Might as well add, Neuvirth is 33rd in ES SV%. So that would put him as a top backup. Obviously health is his biggest issue, but when 3 goalies our of 3 all appear to perform at ES, then fail with our PK, maybe, just maybe it's time to fix the PK. Hextall? Listening?

Regardless, we need a 2-3 year stopgap anyways.

I have never looked into the advanced stats for the 2 Hakstol playoff series, but I have to imagine they are absolutely hideous.

2017-18: CF 48.37% (10th), xGF 44.95 (12th), S% 84.78 (16th), PP: xGF/60 4.44 (15th), PK: xGA/60 4.81 (2nd), S% 78.26 (16th)
2015-16: CF 48.37% (14th), xGF 41.25 (16th), S% 95.24 (2nd), PP: xGF/60 7.28 (7th), PK: xGA/60 9.55 (13th), S% 81.40 (12th)
2013-14: CF 48.19% (10th), xGF 40.57 (15th), S% 91.54 (9th), PP: xGF/60 8.24 (9th), PK: xGA/60 5.38 (4th), S% 90.82 (1st)
Lavi:
2011-12: CF 43.62% (14th), xGF 41.09 (15th), S% 88.93 (14th), PP: xGF/60 8.22 (2nd), PK: xGA/60 10.49 (15th), 81.69 (13th)
2010-11: CF 52.37% (5th), xGF 50.97 (6th), S% 89.88 (15th), PP: xGF/60 9.04 (3rd), PK: xGA/60 6.85 (8th), 85.48 (9th)
2009-10: CF 47.26% (1oth), xGF 49.82 (9th), S% 92.46 (6th), PP: xGF/60 6.73 (8th), PK: xGA/60 6.68 (7th), 88.43 (5th)

The decay on this team predates Berube/Hak and Hextall, just look at 2011-12, then the 2012-13 season. The run was over.
Mason covered up a lot of sins when he was playing well.
PS: the goalies were awful last year, 5x5 or PK.

Comparisons sake, 1st rd losers:
2017-18 Toronto CF 47.77% (13th), xGF 50.28 (7th), S% 90.77 (13th), PP: xGF/60 8.09 (4th), PK: xGA/60 7.99 (13th), S% 79.41 (15th)
2016-17 Toronto CF 49.02% (12th), xGF 51.99 (5th), S% 93.41 (6th), PP: xGF/60 7.10 (8th), PK: xGA/60 8.92 (14th), S% 77.27 (16th)
2017-18 CBJ CF 50.77% (6th), xGF 47.49 (10th), S% 92.30 (8th), PP: xGF/60 4.55 (14th), PK: xGA/60 7.87 (12th), S% 82.89 (13th)
2017-18 COL CF 45.41% (15th), xGF 44.53 (13th), S% 90.74 (14th), PP: xGF/60 4.61 (13th), PK: xGA/60 7.32 (9th), S% 88.46 (2nd)
