Agree with all of that. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Caps try to get McIlrath through. But really who reason they wanted him up was for physical presence or change of pace. We haven’t needed either so he has just sat. They could also send Alexyev down if they don’t plan to resign him.
They played a solid third period defensively. Gotta play that way for three periods to be a contender again. Thank god they signed Hunt late or this team would be in trouble defensively. I know he hasn’t been great this year but it’s slim pickings this time of year for help. They’ve lost HHA, Day, Osipov and they sent Hudson Thornton away from SC to Orlando earlier this year so 4 contracted players gone.
Hopefully Hunt can build on it. He's obviously been a reliable contributor in the past, I think he's going to be seeing a lot more ice time in the near future. I'd like to see them add another defender at the deadline but unfortunately they're already pretty handcuffed by the veteran rule as is.
Complicates the vet rule more but I doubt either would get claimed. Doubt it'll happen, wish it would though, lol. Last night Fisch wondered if the Caps would consider sending either down for a conditioning stint given that they've both barely played in the last two months.
