Prospect Info: Hershey Bears/South Carolina Stingrays 2023-24 Seasons | Hershey 12x (and Defending) Champions Edition

Thank god there are 8 games left in the regular season, gives us some times for that plan to hopefully work. I'm definitely starting to get worried though, we haven't even clinched that second round spot for the playoffs right? Wilks/Barre could surpass us if we don't get our crap together..

Edit: Wilks/Barre or Charlotte, guess they're tied in the standings now. interesting

I know there are a ton of injuries, but they looked like they were just going through the motions in that third period. I do not understand the poor efforts at home this season.
Edit to add:
By quick count, eight home losses allowing 5 or more goals against. Maybe they feel pressured to play well at home & it is having a negative effect. Going off memory alone, this has to be the worst "home" season since '17-'18, right?

I've been torn whether or not to put this here or in the Prospects thread, but wth, here works since it's mostly about Hershey.

I was wondering who was available... I don't follow Hershey closely enough to know where their biggest needs are (D or F, how many of each, and/or both..)

Chesley is obviously the one at the top of our brains, assuming Leonard would go directly to the NHL and stay there. But some other names that might show up..

Henrik Borgström... his SHL season ended. He's Caps "property" (as an RFA), but isn't under contract right now. Rumor is he's leaving the SHL to sign in the Swiss League.
Other NCAAers that are Caps property that COULD sign, though whether or not they are any better than Hershey's current opions, I have no idea... Lemay, Johnson, Gucciardi ..
Muggli?
Ludwig Persson is under contract, and his Finnish league (Liiga) season is over...
Tobias Geisser? Like Borgström, he's an unsigned RFA, played this past season on the same team as Muggli.
Haakon Hänelt.. He joined Hershey last year on a PTO, and his season is over. (German 2nd league...)

I guess this at least partly answers the question of reinforcements.

Editing to add vs a new post, Chesley signing an ATO with the Bears. ELC to come later,

Interesting timing for them to scrap the most economical season ticket plan in the midst of such a poor season at home.

I think the average home record is why people are grumpier than usual this year (well, that and people have been spoiled by the last couple years too). People are gonna be pissier when they pay money to watch them play and they lay semi consistent eggs. If they had the exact same standings record with the home/away records swapped, people would probably have a different outlook. What are they, like 22-5-5 on the road or something?

Defense. Badly. With Mac up in DC all year, Osipov getting dealt on Black Friday (ironically BECAUSE there was a logjam at the time), Ness out for the last month or so, and HHA and Day both leaving a few months back they're quite depleted right now. The likes of Jon McDonald and Andrew Perrott are getting sweaters almost every game. I agree with HB13 that Chesley would be an immediate upgrade right now. Offensive depth wouldn't hurt because, like HB13 also said, every time they get healthy they lose another player or two, but scoring hasn't been a huge issue since December. But still, they essentially iced two fourth lines last night (and still scored four goals, though).

Certainly not making me reconsider my decision to not upgrade. My daughter is using every trick she knows to try to change my mind, though! Other than opening night, I don't recall being at another sold out game this season and last night was our 12th. Oh well.

Agree the D is their biggest issue. Chesley, if he comes, would help immediately and hopefully send one of the ECHLers packing.

Say what you will about running two fourth lines last night (I agree btw), but the line that had Smith & Strome was arguably the best line from the in person eye test. Smith has been a valuable signing for more than just his fists this season.

I don't want to undersell those guys. They've all grown on me. Saulnier is fast and has a good shot, Strome has deceptively good hands (just cement skates that hold him back), and Smith I agree has been better than expected. There's been plenty of times this year when the fourth line is far and away their best of the night, and they're all more than just plugs. But they're definitely not guys you want to rely on either (which they have way too much this year)

Also, was playing around with lineups Sunday and forgot to post this. Health is the biggest factor in our depth right now so great to see people coming back in. Second is our Dee is a bit of a mess so getting the reinforcements there is great. here is what a fully healthy lineup might look like:
