Heritage Classic

The heritage classic was really really cold and you could barely see anything because you're high up. It's not like football, the puck is tiny and the playing surface is small. Basically you just go for the experience, it's tons of fun when goals are scored, but the quality of play is bad because of the ice conditions.

I went to the original game. It was so cold and it was Ramadan. My cousin had an extra ticket and traded it to a little kid for his entire box of fundraiser chocolate almonds he was selling outside Commonwealth for IIRC, his minor hockey team.

Fast forward it's time for us to break our fast and the lines for concessions are so long we couldn't get food without missing a big chunk of the game. We all ended up breaking our fast, and pretty much our teeth, on now frozen chocolate almonds.

It was fun night.

I was looking at making the trip to Edmonton for the Heritage game but tix were pretty expensive and I figured I wouldn't see much from far away. Instead I got tix to see Guns n Roses and the Oil vs Jets two days later. If I'm driving 8 hours for a game might as well hit a concert as well..

I don't even know if I'll watch it on TV. The quality of the game just isn't there for me. Then potential delays due to ice or sun, just not worth the time.

If it were a Saturday then I probably might tune in, but I'll probably go the route of watching NFL.

Now if there were an alumni game I could see myself watching that

I'm going and I got to go to the first one also. I only seen the classic game and about 5 minutes into the first period. My older brother got to cold so we left.

The NHL sent out an email saying there’s no parking at Commonwealth and you can’t park in nearby neighborhoods.

Could some of you kind folks help guide us on the best way to get there for the game? I’m assuming take train, but I’m not sure from where.

I’ll be coming up from Shelbyville.

If anyone has a good idea on how to get there from a Tesla supercharger that’ll be bonus.

Google says take LRT from Southgate mall to Stadium, does that make sense and can you leave your car at Southgate mall for that many hours?

seems like depending on where you sat your experience was vaslty different,

Couple of Buddies were in the noise bleeds, paid a shit load of money and spent the game watching the the giant screen---it was an experience but they wont be doing it again

Commonwealth is a absolute gong show, I will never go to another event there ever ever again.

Worst venue is all of sports. Complete joke.

parking is available, free and pay, adjacent to Century Park. (just east of Station) It cuts your drive and is only a few minutes longer trip on the LRT.

Being you're a Flames fan I should be saying you should stay at the Transit Hotel but I'll be nice just this once. ;)

ps Nobody parks their car outside around Commonwealth that has any choice in the matter.

I feel there must be a story with this.

In anycase Tickets to this Heritage Classic have not been brisk. First one 20yrs ago sold out in minutes. Was impossible to get tickets unless STH or you knew somebody. Thousands of tickets still exist this time, for this game which has been on sale for months. It may not even sell out. It probably doesn't unless they start pricepointing down. This is for a poor quality ice game in a facility not at all designed for hockey dimensions and lines.

The stadium idea works in some places. Not so much at cavernous Commonwealth where you could use binoculars...

As an outsider looking in from the UK--

I believe it is the oilers from around 1993 to 2003 that are being invited to play..and the prices are dear

First time around you had the legends---Gretz I think did the blues or Rangers one and said that is his last one.

Glad I didn't spend money on a Mcdavidless outdoor game especially with the efforts these guys have put in to start the year.

Thank you for the reply. Definitely not a flames fan. My username and the fact that I called it Shelbyville should have been self explanatory :P.

Thanks to all that replied.

In terms of the ticket situation, they’re so ridiculously overpriced which is why there are still so many left. $250 for a seat in the back of the upper bowl is crazy stupid.

I splurged just this once, mostly because it was a bucket list item. I doubt I’ll ever go to another one.

Spent over 2000 to go to the one in Winnipeg including to watch a sickly Gretzky barely skate and flub pucks. Couldn't see that great either. That was enough

No Tesla chargers at Century Park as far as I know. Plus is basically a giant construction zone now so much of the parking is gone.
