Prospect Info: Here comes the Reign again, the 2024-25 Ontario Reign thread

Bah, I always get mistaken that it's Jamsen and not Jansen... Doh.

To piggyback on what RJ said about Portillo, I think that's pretty spot on. He's not really athletic and struggles following the puck when he does cough up a rebound. He's just big, full stop. The issues he had in college still are there, and will probably always be there as he hasn't really progressed much. That's fine I guess for a guy getting 15-25 starts a season, but not someone you put out there 50-60 times a year and get good results.

I do have a fear that Portillo sticks around too long the way Copley has stuck around this year, and interferes with the development of George or Hammer... But that's a year or two away still.

So far decent debut for Ziemmer. Hasn't done anything spectacular yet but has moved the puck well to his linemates.

Wright has been trying to showcase his speed but he's definitely learning how fast professionals play. Hasn't been able to be dangerous.

Edit: of course Wright gets a point when I'm away.

Labored sigh... Malott, Gawdin, Hicketts are all under contract next year. The Reign only really lose Studnicka, Walsh, and Jones. Walsh is an RFA, and I'd think they'd maybe try to hang onto Jones.

I don't really mind having the approximation of 1 vet per forward line and 1 per D pairing (pref a 7th). It's the filler that's the killer, and using guys like Tynan on PP1 over guys like Turcotte.

Like as long as Hicketts isn't taking time from Salin and things like that we're good, it's the "top 6 is AHLers, bottom six is prospect kids" that was disgusting to see live for a year or two there, but they seem to be coming along a little better these days.

Yeah a vet sprinkled in here and there is great for development, and like you said that has changed a bit. But Sturm does still run out 3-5 vets at times which just seems crazy in a development league. It's maddening at times.

It's been better lately from what I've seen, Pinelli and Jamsen have getting a bit of time together, and I want to say Salin was playing with I think it was Hicketts (was him or Ceconni) his first game which is good. But then Sturm throws out Walsh and Hicketts on D, with Gawdin, Fagemo, and Lee as the forwards and what are we even doing here?

I didn't know about the extension. Wasn't he already signed through next year though?
Like we said, Hicketts isn't the issue, he's just fine. He's a perfectly good Vincent LoVerde type minor league guy.

The issue is that Ontario has a decent number of 25+ veterans that all play key roles while the younger players get nothing despite looking good.

Hicketts mentoring and playing alongside Salin, Booth, Dvorak, or Krygier is great. Hicketts playing with Walsh, Cecconi, and Rowe IS an issue, because let's be real, none of those guys likely have an NHL career ahead of them.

The Reigns LD is will be looking pretty nice next season..
Booth
Kirsanov
Dvorak
Krygier

Hicketts, Salin and XXXX will man the right side if I had to guess

Missed this game but it looked like a good one. George is just so calm and poised in the net. It's darn impressive for an 18 year old in the AHL.

Am I out of line to say that in a year or two George may be talked about as one of the top goalie prospects? His play just keeps getting better and better and somehow more impressive the more I see him.
