apparently

put up a 9 spot on boston in 2015-16

I remember that game against the Avalanche. MacKinnon and Kopitar were both in the thick of the Hart conversation, and Kopi walked into that game and just dominated MacKinnon. It was definitely a, "you're gonna be good kid, but this is why I'm a Cup champ" type of game.

Man, after all the goalie analysis last game, I'm a little surprised that it dried up for tonight  further proof that the only thing that matters for goalie viewings around here is what nameplate rests above the numbers.

I've been saying it all along, Amadio deserves a bigger role, independent of what Lizotte does or doesn't do. He was one of our most effectively players last year in a lost season and the roster mismanagement is the only thing that kept him from breaking out.

Iafallo looked super feisty tonight too, love it. Nice element to add, he wasn't just bouncing off people and getting back to skating, he was going in for the kill.

I'm starting to lose hope for Clague. It's his awareness/defensive IQ and I'm not sure that's fixable, tools or not.

Bearfoot, on the other hand, is awesome. It's when he's challenged and forced to make plays that he's the most awesome. Sort of a pseudo-Kopitar, depending on your view he's a good teammate/deferential with the puck, but he's a monster rushing it himself. Someone the other night referenced Heiskanen and I can see it.

Still like what the whole team brought tonight, very encouraging signs, yes they're still making mistakes but I love that they're encouraged to make plays and outscore their problems by playing uptempo and aggressive instead of shelling up.

It's still only preseason but Jesus Christ when was the last time we saw a Kings team that was actually a pleasure to watch like tonight?
ehhh i mean i wouldn't call it a pleasure to watch

not trying to be a pessimist i just think it was a case of one team out-slopping the other

kids capitalized on chances which is great to see for a change but i don't think those are gonna happen in the regular season

Oh and also as much as I've defended Carter he's a shell of his former self at this point. It's sad because you can tell he's frustrated and that his mind is writing checks his body can't cash. Sure he had the straight line speed burst but you can tell he's got a bit of a hitch in his stride and it just looks as uncomfortable as Erik Karlsson's transitions last year.

yeah maybe the lack of shell is contributing to my view of the game

i think i've been tooting the amadio horn alongside you, he does soo many things right

clague is a massive disappointment and i worry we're seeing another ladue

bjornfot looked very comfortable and i like that

Not so sure KMac is an automatic waiver.
he was.. ok.. tonight

probably a bit exposed since clague's been having such a rough go at things, but he almost got back to break up that graovac goal which would've been huge

Loved Martinez's game tonight minus the Pearson tally. The kids looked good and I am liking our offensive style so far. We are going to give up goals with our defense and goaltending roulette. Our offense is all we have to compete at the moment, and so far it is looking good.

The scoring development is nice and mirrors his juniors development, but something I was watching for in particular was takeaways, because that felt grossly inflated...but nope. Dude had 4 in like one shift, it's insane. He's Mark Stone-lite at that, just much less ability to take it and run obviously.

Yup. Not surprised to see the absence of criticism in the goals Campbell allowed, while the goals he allowed were MUCH easier to stop comparatively.

Love Amadio and JAD. Iafallo looked good, too, although he is much better off on the third line.

Clague is quickly getting outperformed by younger players with less experience. He's not even making defensible/teaching moment mistakes. He's playing tentatively. Maybe he's putting undue pressure on himself? I already had him out of my top 10, but he's quickly moving himself further down the depth chart.

I was lukewarm on Carter today. He had a couple good looks. I was honestly pretty meh on Prokhorkin, too. A couple unforced errors.

Weird that it's entirely possible the top pick of of 2016, Clague and top pick of 2017, Vilardi never play for the Kings....and YET, the Kings have a ton of good prospects. The 2016 draft - would normally be a key one NOW, being that they are all turning 21, would have some gems...but between Clague, Moverare, Eyssimont, Friend...perhaps not a single one plays for the Kings. Doesn't help that there were 4 selections! Not being down on Clague and saying he's a miss....but kind of a mess at the moment. Maybe he can be 'the prospect' added to a deadline deal to 'help' move a Lewis, Toffoli, etc.

Too early to give up on Clague but this year in Ontario is pivotal for him. With Durzi, Anderson, Bjornfot and Phillips coming along, he's got to put it together now.

one of them off elias pettersson too iirc.. he definitely has that knack for not just making the stick lift, but quickly removing the puck in the same motion

that thing carter used to be good at.. :[

yeah i definitely don't like bagging on the kid given how young he is, but he's definitely surrounded by sharks now

SPeaking of Pettersson, I love watching that kid, but I don't like that he's turned to the Gaudreau act of "every time I lose the puck it's because someone committed a penalty, help me ref"

Campbell's got the backup QB/goalie syndrome. If/When he ever becomes the no doubt #1, where the other guy gets compared to him, every goal will be criticized. Notice the weaknesses more. Comes with the territory. Quick's been here forever, we know everything about him(on the ice). It's welp, here we go again.

If Amadio is playing well, then that means one less even younger player will be making the team. If Clague isn't playing great, he would be the example of why you don't get too crazy with prospects. We hear about how he was playing well at the end of last year, was going to be called up, really just ready to make the team. Then he doesn't have a great camp, and now he needs more time. Most prospects do. Iafallo made the team, surprisingly, in his first camp, but he was 23 going on 24 at the time. Clague just turned 21 in June. JAD just turned 20 less than 2 weeks ago. They are why the AHL exists. The NHL even makes it so that it's difficult to dump veterans there, or to get the borderline players down there with waivers. It tends to be about the numbers.

Missed the game but my goodness 7-5. What, they just decide to play pond hockey rules last night. No goalies. 7 goals looks like we met our quota for the week. Goal drought incomig for the next month? All kidding aside glad to see the kids contributing and doing well.

Mostly 80s goaltending. Lots of chances generated by both teams though!
