Stupid on Benn and Seguin's part. Saying that on the bench, in the locker room, that's one thing, but to say that **** in an off ice interview is totally unnecessary and childish. It doesn't really make much sense to bash the Sedin brothers anyway, they're class acts. First thing I thought of was how they donated a ton of money to a children's hospital, which Fugu pointed out a few pages ago to show just how pathetic Benn/Seguin look here. I think it would have been less stupid if the player(s) they were making fun were generally disliked (Subban, Marchand, Cooke, players like that), but they chose some of the worst targets possible.

Couldn't agree more, good post.

I really wish that this didn't happen. Benn has never been a guy to cause controversy before. It was a dumb thing to say on the radio but people are acting like he scratched a homophobic slur on one of the Sedins' cars.

And to the guy who is seriously trying to discredit Seguin's charity because it wasn't formed until after his friend became disabled: Seriously?

And to the guy who said it was plain as day what he was saying, I totally disagree. If one wants to assume he was implying gay bro sex that is up to them. It could easily be taken as a joke that they do literally everything together and so maybe they take dumps together, etc. There are a number of other things it could mean that are actually completely heterosexual, which I won't go into.

Anyways, I consider myself a pretty liberal person but I have a hard time getting riled up about the comments. If anything I am offended by the general lack of humor in that comment and interview as a whole. The reality is most of our hockey heroes are mouth breathers who are about as witty as an Irish Setter.

There's a giant difference between things said on and off the ice, I know I've said things to friends I've played against in the heat of battle. Ask yourself this question does Sean Avery get suspended 8 games for saying what he said to Phaneuf on the ice? Don't think so, trash talk is apart of the game, but it should stay on the ice.

As for showing my contradiction it was my first post in the thread so good luck doing that.

How is it any different? If what they are saying is so offensive they shouldn't be saying it all, on the ice or off of it. They should be scrutinized and fined/suspended either way. The fact you are rationalizing what they say on the ice and scrutinizing what they are saying off of it is pure contradiction. Like I said, if it was so offensive you would be calling for the removal of the insinuations, period.

Sean Avery was suspended I assume because he made direct comments about a player's sex life in a league mandated media scrum. Benn and Seguin may have insinuated something, but they didn't blatantly say anything about the Sedin's sex life. They also took time out of their day to join this radio show, so it wasn't an "official NHL interview" like Avery's was.

Oilers fan here, I hate the Canucks with a passion but I think the Sedins are magical. Those guys are pretty much royalty in the league for their actions on the ice. Off the ice they are even more amazing. They never really talk smack about anyone so it was really weird hearing the news out of Dallas. Then again, seeing the the stuff that comes out of their scoreboard, I shouldn't be surprised by the immaturity.

I'm not sure what's going on in Dallas.. jumbo screen jokes that aren't funny and sometimes offensive, "like poop through a diarrhea infected goose" commentary, the captain going on a local radio show to talk about how gay and creepy the Sedins are. maybe the PR department needs an overhaul?

TSN's link to Henrik's response to the comments made by Benn and Seguin earlier.

http://www.tsn.ca/video/sedin-fires-back-at-benn-seguin-1.204596

Basically says that the comments reflect more upon Benn and Seguin than it does on the Sedins, they don't care what is said about him and his brother and that it would have angered them more if they were about a teammate.
I took it as it would have hurt if it was a teammate or someone they were close to saying it about them. But the Sedins handled this very well.

They were careless but many of you are holding these guys in a higher regard than average people, acting like they can't make mistakes.

Stop the celebrity worship.

Jamie Benn had the best response to all the responses in the media from Vancouver that he responded to on the ice. The response to the controversy and the following apology was the perfect response. Plus scoring two goals last night as the perfect perfect response to the entire ordeal.

No Benns best response was his apology to the Sedins for being an immature little tool

It's not celebrity worship. It's called being in the public eye and being held accountable for the things you say and do.

It isn't a contradiction when there is a huge difference to what is said without microphones or video to verify it in the middle of a game and what is said in front of a microphone which can be put on record.

Also, when players are caught using racial or homophobic slurs during a game, whether on camera or through audio, they are typically reprimanded for it. What's the issue, here?

Shouldn't this thread be done?

Benn and Seguin said something incredibly stupid.

Sedins responded that the comment reflected more on Benn and Seguin than them.

Stars organization didn't like the comments, Benn admits it was wrong of them, and reaches out to the Sedins and apologizes.

Case closed.

There really shouldn't be much more debate. Vancouver fans aren't going to get some fine out of this, and Dallas fans arguing that the comment was harmless should probably realize the organization and Benn admitted it was wrong.

Should we close every game day thread as soon as the game is over? It's better to keep a thread open or else others will just keep making new ones or talking about it in other threads. No one is asking you to click on the thread. When people get bored of talking about it, it will naturally slip to the bottom of the threads.

I find it weird that (Jamie) Benn would sit there and not say anything (I think it was Sequin who actually made the incest insinuation) when he plays on the same team as his own brother (Jordie).

The way I read it, it was very much Benn who made the incest insinuation and Seguin actually first went : Seriously??? at that, but later fell into the joke and just agreed with the host that they looked creepy.

I really like Benn, he seems so great and upstanding and his good intentions are usually all over the place. He seriously tried to be an informed soccer fan in Hamburg, it was adorable. That said, he easily came off the worse here.

Is Subban seriously that disliked around the league? Like significantly more than Seguin himself?

Honestly curious about your thoughts, because he might be a scrappy and all, but I never considered him anywhere near the liked of Marchand/Cooke.

For me, once the Dallas organization and Benn admitted the error, it was over.

I didn't appreciate the comments, but I never have in regard to the Sedins who are class acts into themselves. Please rag on Burrows ad nauseam, post tumbleweed Keslers, Luong8s... But leave the twins alone as once they are gone, we will never see any two players like them in the NHL ever again.
