Lundqvist should participate in the All Star game festivities. Who knows if he will get opportunity to participate again?
Next year, and probably for the same reasons. Its a way for the NHL to recognize his great accomplishments throughout his career. Going to be quite the ice skates to fill, when he is done.
Wouldnt want that task, for no money.

The reason he's in the ASG almost every year is because the NHL wants every team to be represented and we simply do not have any forward or defenseman good enough to be considered for the ASG

Can anyone see Hank--after his deal ends in two years--resigning with the team for a low annual salary (perhaps at one year contract intervals) to be Igor's backup? That could ensure that he is on the team when competitive again, and have a shot at getting his name on the cup.
OMG, incredible how that thought just occured to me a few posts up from yours. Yes, i can see it......but ONLY if he feels he can contribute in a positive way (like winning). Cant see him, "just because" he wants his name on it, while embarrassing himself and his legacy......not that he would EVER play that badly. Just saying.

Yessireebob! The onslaught from the West, wouldn't really be too much different than what Hank sees on a nightly basis.
Only, it doesnt count and hurt his save pctg. Lol.

I think as long as he's healthy and good, it's entirely possible he plays another year or two after his current deal.

I wouldn't see it as a straight up backup though, it would most likely be more of a shared load. Which honestly would help Igor adjust to the NHL and grow as a player.

I think people see his current cap hit and deal and recoil at the idea of re-signing Hank but I think he will absolutely sign lower cap hit one year deals if he wants to keep playing after this year. He can be like Jumbo Joe in SJ. Obviously it all depends on if he's still healthy, good and wants to keep playing. Considering how renowned he is for preparing and taking care of himself, I don't see a reason why he won't still be good when the team is hitting the turnaround to being good again.

I remember the feeling when Richter was finished and it hit me not long ago, we're gonna be in for some dark days...

There were dark days after Richter because we didn’t have anyone to replace him even a little, with the exception of short lived bright spots from Dunham and Blackburn.

Hopefully Shestyorkin is legit and we won’t have that happen this time around.

I never even realized the skills competition was tonight; that's how much my disinterest has grown over the years for all-star weekend.

Hank performed well?

Imagine if Hank had a legit star defenseman in front of him. What would his numbers be like if he had someone like Lidstrom/Chara etc. on the ice half the game instead of the bottom/mid pair scrubs he's had to deal with his whole career.

He has played on Sweden. He knows what its like. Has a Gold and Silver with them. He could have been a generational goalie on a better organization.

To whom it applies to, I hope* nobody here:

There is no excuse for anyone throwing shade at Richter or Lundqvist at all.

At all.

Not over 1 goal or 10.

f*** your opinion and also your right to vote. Thank you for f***ing up real life AND the internet for anyone with a working brain.

I'm not sorry, if these creatures are "entitled" to their opinion, then so am I and the above is most strongly mine.

What annoys me is other "fans" that throw shade when this fanbase has absolutely no f***ing business being picky or choosey.

We have one f***ing Cup in nearly 80 years. We're not Montreal. We're not Detroit. We're not even Chicago. I'll take what I can get here and be grateful for players like Lundqvist.

Beggars can't be choosers. I have no idea where the sense of entitlement comes from with some people towards these players.

Lundqvist is arguably the greatest Ranger next to Leetch, and without a doubt one of the top overall highlights in our 90+ year history.

Maybe this is why they drafted Lindbom. As highly regarded as Shesty is, ya' just never know. For as few a 7th round goaltender successes there are (Hank) there are thousands that have not. Hoping Shesty isn't one of those. Ergo, Lindbom. And I am on record for not "understanding" the position of the pick, not the player. I suppose its an insurance policy.
