Is it just me or does Hank not get shutouts anymore?

At the rate things are going, it could be almost two years between shutouts. His last one was 11/19/17.

Shutouts are hard. Shutouts are even harder when the defense is AHL quality.

Can anyone see Hank--after his deal ends in two years--resigning with the team for a low annual salary (perhaps at one year contract intervals) to be Igor's backup? That could ensure that he is on the team when competitive again, and have a shot at getting his name on the cup.

I don't think so. Hank has too much pride to win that way. If he can't be the starter, I don't think he would bother. Imagine if we win the cup and Henrik doesn't play even 1 minute in the postseason. I also don't think the Rangers would ask him to do that.

He still thinks we can rely all on Lundqvist at this stage of his career.

I have no idea how you are getting that from his quotes.

“It’s still a development year, but the one thing with the team that shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody is that Hank can carry a team,” Dolan said, citing Henrik Lundqvist. “I think our success up until this point is largely attributable to Hank, but that’s not what our plan is.

He's giving Hank credit for carrying the team, but saying that it isn't the plan.

Rangers have had difficulty notching shutouts from Richter's reign. Richter would be close often but too many softies made that real tough for him. Plus poor D and systems will do that too. Hank overcame it with sheer skill for a while and Tort's system helped as well...then came AV where we had the talent but not the scheme... and now the current D crop we have doesn't lend itself to stellar defensive performances.

Maybe not as a backup, but I can see him splitting starts with Igor similar to how Giguere/Bryzgalov did in Anaheim.

A lot of people are banking on Shesty, but the reality is he's probably not going to take Hank's job over night, if at all. Hank is arguably the best goalie of this generation and even at this old age he's still better than a significant number of goalies in this league and given his near immaculate track record and preparation for each game I can easily see him playing into his 40's

Maybe. Obviously there are a lot of moving parts and a lot can happen between now and then. I just think it's unlikely.

This is what I initially thought as well. I don't think Hank is gonna go from being relied on as a starter to suddenly just retiring. He's going to be eased into a lesser role towards the end of his career. I can definitely see a scenario where Shesty is groomed and they split 50/50. I think that's Hank's best shot at a Cup here, granted everything falls into place like we hope before he retires (prospects wise). It also depends on the return we get from upcoming trades and who we draft in June. Please f***ing God can it be Hughes or Kakko? These moral victories don't last nearly as long as drafting a franchise player.

Hank's best shot at winning a Cup here is being a backup in a few years, and he'd a great mentor for Shesty.

I know this is an old post but I have to say Dolan is completely out of touch.

Best quote:

“I’m very happy with how the organization is organizing itself around development.”

Yes. Good. Keep your hands off of our f****in’ team and just keep those pockets open for when the time comes.

Let's see Shesty get a few NHL games under his belt with this middling defense before handing over the reigns. He's got a pretty good group in front of him in the KHL. Same can't be said here. Yet.

Common sense is not the strong suit of those who think Hank is any kind of problem whatsoever.

Yup, that's my thinking as well.
