Cap space is important but the Rangers are obligated to protect Lundqvist due to his no-movement clause.

I don't like Lundqvist, I have a ton of respect for his talent, but the way he carries himself bugs me. That being said, the idea that his performance is what has kept the Rangers from winning a championship is absurd.

I can buy the argument that it's tough to build a cup team when your goalie has a huge cap hit, but that's a whole different kettle of fish.

The rangers should offload Lundqvuist - even as a cap dump. They owe him that as he deserves to play for a management team that can surround him with a team that contend during the twilight of his prime
