Hope it doesn't come down to this but if Bishop in Dallas doesn't work and Dallas wants to cough up Honka and solidify themselves the best chance possible to win a cup I would say yes. All depends on hanks approval and desires though

NO! Lundqvist is retiring a Ranger, almost guaranteed at this point.

Rangers will never win with Lundqvist.

Time to move onto someone who actually shows up in playoffs

It's actually the other way around.

A rebuild starts with trading Lundqvist. He'll still keep us afloat in the playoff race, but the rest of the roster is too flawed ATM to make any serious runs.

I would like to see him on Dallas to be honest. They would be a serious contender (not that they aren't right now, just not so sold on Lehtonen/Niemi) perhaps even favorites. And it would be great to see him holding the Cup.

It's probably the closest my generation of Rangers fans (not old enough to remember 94, I was 4 at the time) will ever get to actually winning it.

Nuke, Dickinson and a 1st. No retention.

We'll take back Lehtonen in return but that bumps up the above price, which I feel is pretty reasonable.

lol he has carried NYR to the playoffs and deep in the playoffs every year except this year when everyone on the team sucked. Not his fault the skaters cant score in the playoffs.

I guess you don't get to watch much playoff hockey in Toronto.....the Rangers have been to 3 ECF's and 1 finals in the last 4 years, they didn't lose because Hank forgot to show up. They might not win with Hank, but it is a testament to the team, not a guy who always gives his all and is head and shoulders above almost every other goalie in the league.

How many contenders can afford $8.5 million salary, Pretty sure it's very few.

Dallas is really the only option. They're really the only team in the league that doesn't have a very good goalie currently in net or in the pipeline.

And if we take back Lehtonen in return, that's only a $2.5 million bump in cap.

Yup Lundqvist to Dallas would make perfect sense, And i could see Lundqvist willing to go to Dallas. If Gorton was willing to take back Lehtonen in the deal that should work out for both the Rangers and Stars.

And Lehtonen in net would for sure carry us to the promised land: our 1st draft pick inside the top 10 since the lockout.

He has a NMC, and I doubt it as reports said the team was open to dealing anyone besides Lundqvist Buchnevich and Skjei

And reports had Stepan as the player that was being shopped. Not a single murmur about Brassard.

Don't put too much stock in what the NY media has to say.

I mean Boomer was the only one who had any inkling about the MSL trade. Probably the biggest trade the Rangers have made under the Sather era and a non-beat writer who is more of a fanboy than a hockey reporter was the one with the scoop.

Well I may be in the minority but I would like to hang onto Hank I just don't think we would get enough value in a deal to make it worthwhile even asking him to waive in the first place

Dallas would be all over this but I shudder to think of this team without him, we'd be close to the top ten in the next year's draft, if not top 5.

Then again that's probably what this team needs to really take a step forward and I'd love to see Hank get a cup, more so than any other player

Probably going to have to lose that deal in the present for a long-term gain. Goalies don't have much trade value to begin with. You're likely dealing with very few teams (due to his salary and most team being set in goal), so it's not like there would be a huge bidding war to boost his value.

Trading Lundqvist (and every current roster player outside JT, Zib, Hayes, Kreider, Buch and Skjei) would bring in so many young players. And would position us well to draft in the top 3-5, where all the
franchise changing talent is. That we desperately need.

But it makes sense to keep Lundqvist if you still believe this team can be a contender. Or if you want to see him retire a Ranger. But that would be putting loyalty to a player ahead of loyalty to the future of the franchise.

Yeah going from Lundqvist to Lehtonen would be a major downgrade that's for sure. And totally agree with Lehtonen in goal for the Rangers you're pretty much looking at a top 10 pick.

Not neccessarly when he was on bad teams and he saw alot of rubber he was allways solid. Sure that was a while ago and he had two concussions since but even last season in games where the team got outshot Lehtonen was usually very good ( see Game 6 vs St.Louis ) . The games where he barely gets tested are the ones where he loses you the games .

Not that it matters Lundquists contract would be a problem for Dallas and giving up Honka is pretty much a no go imho.

Lundqvist is completely untradeable.

He's extremely overpaid and plays a position with a large supply. Therefore, will never bring back what the Rangers feel is the right return for a guy that has been their franchise for a decade, and talent-wise, is still elite.
