For the past three games our goaltender has let in nine goals total.

I've noticed a supreme amount of comments saying that he has been bad.

I had a theory however besides the "not enough training camp:"

Does anyone else think that we put way too much pressure on our goaltender? By "we" I mean us as fans indirectly and the team itself. I can't speak with certainty because even if I asked him he would never tell us.

I personally have been disappointed with his play in the sense that I was spoiled by his absolutely awesome play all of last season. Thoughts?

The thing I really admire about Lundqvist is that he puts more pressure on himself than the fanbase ever could. He's rusty and it shows. He'll get better.
 
He'll be fine. Short camp and he didn't play anywhere during the lockout. He'll get into the groove.

Last nights goals:

1st - deflection/Girardi screening HL trying to block
2nd - Lucic pounding away while a Bruin skates through and over HL
3rd - Bang bang play where Hagelins redirected defensive play goes right to
the stick of Horton who shoots with both Hagelin and McDonagh screening

But go ahead, get worried :)
 
What most people on this forum don't understand is its not all about how many goals he let in.

Sure, did Henrik give up a bad goal last night? Yes...the tying goal to make it 3-3 was soft. Other then that, all goals scored on him in the first three games HAVEN'T been his fault. Deflections, missed coverages, screens, defensive breakdowns, etc etc etc have been at fault.

His game in Boston was epic, made tons of great saves, we just didn't have the play in front of him to win.

Henrik was pulled out of the home opener not because of his play, but because Torts didn't want to subject him to the ****y play that was going on in front of him.

If anything, last night against Boston at home he looked like he was fighting the puck at bit. It happens some nights, he's a human being.

We are a spoiled fan base having such a great goalie who has bailed us out of too many situations to begin to count, so when Henrik gives up a couple goals people tend to think he's slumping.

I have played goalie for 15+ years, and in some fairly competitive leagues. I know the position well, and when I go to games at the garden, and watch Henrik in warmup, I usually can tell if he will be on or off that night depending on how he looks. Any goalie will tell you the same about some nights you have it, and some nights you are fighting the puck.

A user on here said it last night, the last player on this team ANYONE needs to worry about is Hank. He is his harshest critic.

It is super early in the season, and he will only get better as the season goes on. Let's focus more on who will lead in secondary scoring, and even more importantly, fixing the anemic, ****y powerplay that still plagues us again.
 
Third goal was soft. Low wrister from the top of the circle. He was inside the blue paint and still couldn't get his knees down and together quick enough. He'll get it together, but you can tell his timing and quickness are off from not playing any games during the lockout.

I've watched it multiple times. I would suggest you watch it again.

He was late on the read, and this is proven by the fact that he butterflied too late, didn't have his stick on the ice to protect his five-hole, and ultimately got beat there.

That goal is on him.

 
He's only been beaten cleanly three or four times. At this point it's fair to say he has just been unlucky.
 
he is not in mid-season form, but he'll get better. the team in front of him certainly isn't helping his confidence any. i think he just looks cold. movements are a little more delayed and he just doesn't look as comfortable in the net. i don't see this as a long-term thing. every game he's looking a little more natural in the net.

I disagree with calling that goal 'soft'; it was Nathan Horton, who is quite a talented goal scorer in the high slot with 2 player screening Hank.

That said however, I think a non-rusty Lundqvist stops that shot.
 
Three breakdowns happened on that goal before the puck even got to Hank.

Coverage on Campbell, redirect by Hagelin, two players not blocking but screening their tender.

Clear as day.

He's given up two what I would consider bad goals.

He's also faces two top offensive teams.
 
Once again I agree with Torts. Hank is playing great. The people in front of him are not. I didnt watch last game but out of the 6 goals scored on him before this game only 2 where truly his fault imo. Our defense still isnt doing enough and its going to bite our ass soon.
 
He's just not playing at the usual 'Hank-level' we are used to seeing. Give him time...there was virtually no training camp for him or his defense.

Jonathan Quick has also gotten off to a slow start.
 
On that last goal, the Bruins player just skates right into the slot and fires a wrister. That's where most goals come from if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, it's not a "bad goal" per se. It's something we're used to seeing Lundqvist stop, but it's not a softy by any stretch.

Agree strongly with this post.

It wasn't a bad goal, but it was one we are used to seeing Lundqvist stopping. So it seems like a bad goal.
