As a Devil fan I really don't like him. But I do respect him and he is one of the best and most consistent goalies I have seen over the last decade. And he still is again this year.

Those who don't like him sure has heavy arguments against him. "He gets angry at the Benny Hill show in front of him, that he has had to endure basically his entire career, while still trying to stay competitive. He gets angry at his lost defensemen." Not exactly "assaulting taxi drivers" or "abusing his woman" material there.

I would like to see how calm and relaxed you holy posters would be, when you allow the third goal of the night, after yet another total Hindenburg in your own zone, topped off with your own defenseman doing nothing but screening and probably deflecting the shot, while no one is there for the rebound, as usual. How many MINUTES would it take for you to start whining, if nothing worked as intended at your workplace and your work mates didn't do their job, which affects your job? But I'm sure you would remain extremely professional and shrug it off, day after day, in a situation where you can't even help the situation by doing the work for the work mates to get something done.

Yet after the game, he does always put the responsibility of the team on his shoulders, that HE must play better. If the team plays like ass, I for sure would be happy if at least ONE player on the team shows some emotion. But a grumpy hockeyplayer that is aggressive? Especially a goalie shouting at people? A player that hates to allow goals and lose games? Unheard of in the game, what a barbarian!

But I guess you expect he should have a basket of cookies on the top of his net, to hand out to comfort his teammates during a break and chuckle like Santa Claus when he gets lit up. I understand you don't like that he has turned the NYR retirement home franchise into a competitive enviroment that expects you to give your all, perform and not take off nights.

What exactly do you think it takes mentally, to stay consistent as a franchise goaltender for over a decade, regardless of what happens in front of you? You sure as heck don't shrug off failures.

He saves at least 3 sure goals a game. His recovery, positioning and anticipation has been the best I have seen watching this game since 1978. I was at the Devils Rangers game the other night and he was unreal. If the Rangers miss the playoffs it will not be because of him.

Having a solid bounce back year after a miserable '16-'17. Much credit to him.

Still think he is right around top 5, which he has been most of his career, most definitely not consistently a top 3 goalie. That was always overblown. He's consistently been the 5th best goalie in the league besides a couple seasons. An impressive career.

As far as High Danger Saves. I really don't put as much faith into that stat as others on here. MSG is notorious for over counting shots and Lundqvist somehow faces 1 more High Danger Shot per game at home than away. A really bizarre stat since most other goaltenders face less at home. I also think his style is more beneficial when he is facing HDS because of how deep he plays in net and how much net coverage that results int.

He's had a good streak going over the past few weeks.

However, anyone expecting him to keep up this level of play for the rest of the year is kidding themselves.

"Inferiority complex" implies envy to something great. Which Rangers aren't. Made the Finals once in 20 years. Big deal.

I hate the Rangers but Lundquist is a great goalie.

Oh I agree that there is little to envy about the Rangers on a couple of fronts, but if you think there isn’t a severe inferiority complex amongst Devil and Islander fans, your are simply lying to yourself.

If he wore a different jersey, (Dallas, Preds, Wings....)I don't think you would find the hate as you do now.

Some fans simply can't get beyond the fact that the guy's home is MSG.

Look no further than the the innumerable posters of rival teams that have avatars that involve the Rangers falling, choking, failing...they hate the Rangers more than like their own team. The inferiority complex is impressive.

It is very sad.

Regardless, the vitriol is proof enough that HL is still a top goalie in this League.

As a Devils fan myself, you are correct. I wouldn't dislike him at all if he wasn't a Rangers player.

He is still an effective Goaltender at this stage as it is still difficult to get pucks by him. Last game against the Devils, it went to a Shootout because Lundqvist was good.

In my view, it's the fans, the Rangers goal song(that's annoying as hell to me), and the Play-By-Play guy(Sam Rosen, who calls every goal like it's the Cup-Winning Goal in the Stanley Cup Finals) that I dislike with a fervor.

It's nothing really personal, though. ;)

Intelligent, concise response...appreciated... (I will only say Sam is getting up there in age, and comparing him to Chico and Butch, let alone the guys like Moller in Fla and blowhards in Van, Bos and Col...he really isn't terrible. The fact that he does national as well as NFL games, others must think he is beyond a silly homer...but I would find his voice annoying as well if I was't a fan...)

Cheers!

Lundqvist received a great deal of criticism for his performance last season. He deserved that criticism. After posting seven consecutive years with a .920SV%+ (.921, .923, .930, .926, .920, .922, .920) he posted a .910SV%. By many fans, especially Ranger fans, not only was he no longer considered elite, but he was not a "good" starter in the NHL.

During the last playoff, Lundqvist posted a .927SV%. He was the main reason the Rangers beat Montreal in the goaltender duel against Carey Price, but also a contributing factor to their loss against the Senators.

This season he started with a rough October, but since November has been a top-5 goaltender in the NHL at the age of 35.

On the season he has 17W a 2.59GAA and .920SV%.

Since November 1st Lundqvist has a 2.26 GAA (5th in NHL), .931SV% (5th in NHL) and 14W (2nd in NHL) while playing on a team which typically has poor puck possession numbers and routinely gets out chanced by their opposition. It's also important to note he has been an absolute work horse for the team this season (organization has no faith in Pavelec).

How much does he still have left in the tank? Where does he currently rank among NHL starters? Are we too quick to dismiss a huge body of work for any player when a world class player has an off season?
Beating Price in the playoffs means you're officially better than a traffic cone. The guy is a joke when it comes to tight situations.

Price was damn good in that series. Habs offense failed him, especially Pacioretty.

Ranger "Fans" love blaming hank because its easy and they don't really understand hockey. They love SV% even though its one of the silliest and most flawed stats, but it helps their argument. They love pointing out that in protected games Back up goalies can out preform him ins SV% ONLY but don't take into account that in games with back up goalies rangers block 30% more shots play far more defensive sometimes generating 50% less scoring chances.

He's a top 3 most overpaid goalie. Not top of anything else though.
The way he has been playing the last two months, he is worth his salary. Problem is when/if he drops like he has done some of the last seasons. He needs to be consistently great to be worthy of that contract, its just the way it is when you make that kind of money. The chance of that is very slim considering his age. He can still be decent/good but would be overpaid, not because he is horrible but because he makes so much money.

that just means they trust hank too much when they shouldn't.

just like you remember all of the first and second team all star selections that Hank was awarded. especially for a top 3 goalie. hint: there are only 2.

All star games? lol

Look at Vezina voting. Top 3 several times, top 2 a few times and a winner. All while being top 5 more often than not.

Hate on him all you want because you despise the Rangers, but he's been the most consistent goalie over the past decade.
