How should the Rangers treat Henrik Lundqvist for the remainder of his contract?

And makes no money for a second year in a row of his prime when he has a European out clause. It’s not a video game. Not realistic man nor fair to ask.
Have you spoken to him? Do you know him well? Do you know if the Rangers have made promises to him regarding 2020-21? How do you know how he'd react?

As long as the Rangers communicate clearly with all parties I'm sure they can come up with an arrangement that has everyone at least agreeing with, it's just one season.

Some combination of the first two. The Rangers need to do what's right for the teams as far as playing the goalie who is hot. He shouldn't be expected to waive his NTC. There's a reason it was included in the contract when he signed it. And the Rangers did offer it to him with knowledge that this time would come.

Many here want to have their cake and eat it too. They don't want to play hardball with Lundqvist and they don't want to trade Georgiev. Understandable, but unrealistic. I would be shocked if Shesterkin stayed here if he was told he would play another full season in Hartford next year after dominating down there this year. That's a surefire way to jettison your franchise's best prospect back to Russia with a sour taste in his mouth.

You can't have it both ways here with regards to Henrik and Georgiev. If you pick both, you risk losing Shesterkin and that is really not a viable option.

I don’t need to talk to him personally to know why he requested a European assignment clause in year 2. I don’t need to speak to him to know making 90k a year for two years in the prime of your professional sports career is a bad business decision. I should ask you would you take 10% of what you should make for a couple years to accommodate an old man that doesn’t want to retire when you could make 90% more if you left with an an open invitation to work in your home town?

you’re being extremely unrealistic and also acting like YOU know that he’d be totally fine playing in the AHL for 2 years

an nhl ELC for him is already a massive pay cut for an established KHl all star. He’s taking that on the chin in the prime of his career to play here. You want him to spend 2 of the 3 years on an AHl contract? It’d be crazy

I don't see Shesterkin wanting to stick around a second season in the AHL --- especially with the way he's playing.

I know this isn't an answer that people want to hear, but one of Lundqvist, Shesterkin and Georgiev is not going to be on this roster next season. The AHL option isn't happening. The three goalie rotation isn't likely.

I agree and there's the dilemma. Which more than likely means the trading of Georgiev. I just cannot see Henke retiring yet.

Like I said Hank either retires which he should if he’s being honest with himself or we trade Georgiev. That’s really it.

I know we all wanna get Shesty some NHL games but I also have a really hard time thinking he’s gonna come here and lay an egg with how well he’s played. Maybe have some growing pains? Sure. If it comes down to it and Hank is here next year no matter what he and Shesterkin can split the games, we can have one more season of growing pains anyway since we’re still a very young team and if Shesty needs to have another veteran to platoon with after Hank’s contract is up, before he takes over as a full fledged starter, than we can sign a stop gap veteran or Hank can re-sign for cheap, understanding he’ll be a backup.

I agree. I just don't know if I see Lundqvist retiring after this season.

I get that there's a desire to have him retire and for us to not have to make a decision, but I don't think the odds are in favor of that approach.

I mentioned it the other night but his movements in the crease are dramatically deteriorating. He is struggling to recover for shots against. He looks like he’s struggling just to pop back into position. Like as if he’s in pain. So I’m not just hoping he retires I’m watching his overall ability leaving him more and more everyday. I don’t know how he can tell himself he is ok. He’s literally Cannot react laterally after shots against. It’s a fire drill now every time.

I know I would retire early leaving millions on the table (which would give another generation of my family financial freedom)...especially if I have no health issues. I'd feel I owe it to nutters (not you in particular) on internet forums.

Naslund did it

And then there goes Lundqvist's legacy and all he will be remembered for is pushing Georgiev out of town as this sub feverously melts down with every 2.00 .940 win he has in Toronto/San Jose/Edmonton, etc.

plenty of pros retire when they no longer are able to perform to the best of their abilities.

Has nothing to do with owing me anything.

Fair enough. Naslund did something very rare for an organization that he owed nothing to. That however, makes one out of how many? And, did you honestly post that if Hank would stay and Geo would be traded, that his legacy would be ruined and that is what he would be remembered for? Yikes.

To me, for example, Biron was cooked. Hank is not. I've said my peace. Have a great day fellas, I've got to get back to work.

It already happened on Saturday with the outrage of Georgiev not getting the start and then Lundqvist blowing the game

The outrage where? On HFBoards? It's hysterical at times that this website thinks that it is the majority of opinions about hockey or may actually be more knowledgeable than other fans that don't post here 500 times a day. Let alone being smarter than coaches or GMs
