Media session from today indicated Hellebuyck was not happy with the way the Jets management approached the season, and many are floating trade ideas.

What would you give up for him?

IMO Jets defense has struggled in front of him this year and in years prior. Even with an olympic D core in front of him he still put on a stellar performance and put the choke artist narrative to bed, at least for now.

Would kill to have him in Pittsburgh. Forwards on the up and up. D needs upgrading which they will hope to do in free agency (they have the cap space), and with somebody solid in the pipes until Murashov hopefully is able to make the leap, they could solidify their position as a playoff team for a few years.

What would Winnipeg be looking for in return? Pens assets consist of lots of picks, but no real blue chippers who are skaters. Can't imagine any of their roster players (ones who are realistically available) could form the centerpiece for a Helle trade.

A lot of us just read it as pressure to do something bold, which Chevy is usually allergic to. This season was a bunch of crappy moves and running crappy veterans that likely cost us the playoffs. Schenn, Nyquist, Bryson and Fleury should not have played on this team this year. They were awful. Namestnikov and Niederreiter were replacement level, just cooked. Lowry and DeMelo both with a god-awful year. Arniel is not the man to coach.

This team needs some serious movement. I wouldn't be surprised if 7OA was in play to make a splash. Otherwise Chevy is just wasting the careers of everyone who committed here.

Wouldn't mind getting back a couple picks and players for him if the deal was right.

To Wpg: Skinner (signs extension 2yr x 4m), Kettles, Howe, 26' 2nd Rd (Wpg), 27' 3rd Rd

To Pitts: Hellebuyck, DeMelo, 26' 7th Rd, 27' 6th Rd

Jets need younger players to develop, Nyquist/Toews/Miller/Bryson/Heinola will probably all be gone which frees up space for them (8.45m) to try and add defensemen and someone up front. Also with Helle and DeMelo not on the roster (13.4m) minus Skinner contract (4m) an additional (9.4m) to work with.

Penguins get the goalie they need with Murashov backing him up and learning from one of the best. DeMelo adds a RD who can go up and down the lineup. The added picks just make them have a couple extra later on.

My takeaways:

1) He's confident in his game.

2) He likes his team but wants better results.

3) He likes living in Winnipeg, but says he understands why other's might not. Team has some elite talent.

4) Signed his new contract in good faith. His positive view of the team is "challenged" by this season.

5) He's looked at data and thinks the goals on tips and screens is the majority of goals against. Wants things less chaotic in front of him, less traffic, screens, and tips.

6) Doesn't say trades or FA signings are needed, but did reiterate that the current results are not acceptable.

This has always been the thing with him. Its why theres such a disparity between the regular season and playoffs. Regular season the Jets can play a style that keeps things calm for him. Come playoff time where the intensity and chaos ramp up, the Jets just arent good enough to lock it down and he gets exposed badly. And its why he looked so good on team USA. They were talented enough to play that style of game.

He would get absolutely cooked on a team like Edmonton. On Florida being back under Maurice with a legit D group he'd look good.

Columbus is a team I'd watch for here.

So, I agree with most of what you said and I value your response. I sound like a teleprompter.

My thought on number 5):

He needs to look at himself and figure out why tips and screens are a problem. It's the biggest weakness in his game. He said it, not me.

Where does he stand in the crease? I feel like with traffic, you want to play a little more aggressive, and probably to the top of the crease. This changes the angle for the shooter. It gives them less to shoot at.

It would also put him into traffic and he will likely get more goaltender inference calls against the opposition. He can go watch Brodeur or Roy. They both challenged the shooter well.

This will of course open up cross ice passes. In this case, his defenseman can concentrate on blocking those passes. This would give the team and the goaltender something concrete to work on during the offseason.

How does the D look? How aggressive was Helle in the crease this season?

He played like an all world goalie at the Olympics. But I don't think Canada got him moving. Which is what I would have adjusted for if I was Team Canada.

I think, overall, he's frustrated and wants to win. He loves it there and wants to stay, but is challenging the team and management to step it up.

The fishing is probably world-class up there.

He openly says he DOESNT understand why others won’t give WPG a chance

3 1sts and Hensler from Ottawa for Helle with no retention or 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 3rd, 4th and Yakemchuk for Helle @ 50% retained

Or 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 3 3rds, 2 4ths, Savoie, Howard (+ all their picks this year which can be directed via Winnipeg if they're interested in this trade, so another 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th) and Jarry (cap) for Helle

Anyone who gives up that much for a goalie should be fired on the spot.

We'll see how Ullmark and Ingram do in the playoffs, but yeah I'm not assuming a guy who was a slightly above average goalie in Ingram is going to get it done and a guy who has sucked in the playoffs like Ullmark will either. They might prove me wrong, Ullmark certainly has the capacity to be great and Ingram can be solid enough for Edmonton to win (not sure that would be enough vs Colorado or Minny or Dallas, but we'll see.

And I would've agree with you were it not for the Helle gold performance. That game should've legit been at least 4-1, maybe even 5-1 or 6-1 were it not for him. His playoff performances have been very up and down, but that cemented HOW much of a game changer he can be on a great team when he is on his game. It literally might be the greatest single game performance in Hockey history when we factor the magnitude of the situation.

Edmonton should go for it regardless with McDavid only having 2 years left, Ottawa is somewhat similar with Brady having only 2 years left, but can be more patient.

"A goalie" that was the MVP in the league just last season.

He is not on the market. Jets have key pieces locked long term. Need to make some fundamental changes to the roster and they should be good again. But it is a short window. Poor offseason and slow start to the 2026-27 season and the core players will be on notice.
